I have lots of tobaccy to get through right now. They are more of a cigar show then Pipe, so a lot of there tobacco sits for a while (Aging), so not like I have to hurry. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

Re: What are your thoughts on MacBaren Mixture Scottish Blend

This last weekend I had a conversation with the US distributor for Mac Baren tobacco. He told me that Scottish Mixture was their number one seller. I did take a big whiff of the mix, and was very tempted by it (it smelled wonderful) but picked up a tin of their HH Mature Virginia instead.

I don't think you can go wrong if you like Mac Barens already. I myself have never tried their tobaccos, surprisingly, and that's why I bought this first tin. In 6 months or a year, I'll crack it open and see what they have to offer.

Re: What are your thoughts on MacBaren Mixture Scottish Blend

Two answers:

First, the one we were taught when I worked at a pipe shop is "If you like other Mac Baren's blends such as Plumcake, Club Blend and Virginia #1, you'll probably like Scottish Mixture".

Second (since I no longer work at a pipeshop) is mine own - "Think in your mind what gravel mixed with tasteless hot air would be like and you've got Scottish Mixture".

Seriously, how one likes a certain tobacco is the same chemical balance that causes you to like certain foods and drinks. We're all different. My honest answer to your question is "I don't care for it but others do get enjoyment from it so it's worth a try to see whether it works for you".

I like Scottish Blend, but I like MacBaren VAs and cavendish. $14 isn't exactly an outstsanding price but not bad for a B&M. MacBaren are pretty cheap by volume in comparison to a lot of other tobacco ie-$8 - $13 for a 100g as compared to $6 - $15 for a 50g. If you like them, they're a nice value

I know it's not the best, but $14 is actually really good for 100 grams at a B&M. I know I can get 8 oz for around 25-30. But if I don't like it, what am I going to do with all that tobacco. I found these tins online for $9 a tin, but then tack on shipping, I am paying more.

You can get a pound online for $28 from Smokingpipes, maybe less elsewhere. If you order over $95 worth of tobacco shipping is free but I don't know about your situation. You're actually in a position that most if not all of us have been in at one time or other, which is learning the ropes. You can do a sample thingie and I think we have a make a wish thread here too for sampling tobaccos. Also, If you buy a blend and don't like it today the best thing to do is put it on the shelf and keep trying it from time to time over a period of time. If you still don't like it then you can sample it out, make a trade with another member or sell it to someone. I had a lot of misses along the way, most of which I traded or gave away to less fortunate smokers.
