Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

Hearth&Home offers a 6-pack sampler of their bulk blends for just under $30. I'd like to hear from those of you who have sampled their stuff what your recommended 6-pack sampler would be...

Here is what I am thinking of for a first shot...

Classic Burley Kake
Anniversary Kake
Marble Kake
Old Companion
Daybreak
Rolando's Own

This would get me a couple of burley blends, a virginia blend, a couple of va/per blends, and a light english. Any thoughts or suggestions?

How many ounces total. I can get 6-1oz total at my B&M for around $20. I may be missing something here?

Re: Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

This is a sampler of 6 2 ounce samples.

The Anniversary Kake is my go-to tobacco. I have several pounds stored away, and smoke it on an almost daily basis. Over half my pipes are dedicated to virginias, they get the most use from this blend. Great tobacco fresh, but if you can, put some away in a mason jar for 6-12 months, and it turns into an absolutely exquisite blend.

The classic burley kake is an odd one. I like it very much, but didn't at first. It has a slight anise/chocolate taste to it. I will say this. This is the perfect blend to learn smoking a pipe with. It comes nicely "kaked", breaks and loads easily, and smokes without any effort at all. I have some stored, and will eventually buy more of this.

I have 4 ounces of the marble kake that I just bought last week. It comes hard as a brick, but looks interesting. I haven't smoked any yet, and won't for several months. I cellar all virginia blends for several months before trying. To smoke it before than would not to virginias justice.

The others, I have no knowledge of, but tobaccoreviews.com has been pretty accurate regarding these blends.

I have tried Frenchy's Sunza Bitches. It's a bold, hard hitting smoke in strength, but I like it very much. The only thing about this blend is that you have to smoke it fresh. Storing it in the cellar tends to weaken the quality of this weed.

I don't think you can go wrong with many of Russ's blends. He's an absolute master of blending, and a gentleman to boot.

The Marble Kake is great stuff, both in taste and in the tactile aspect of preparing it for smoking. I thought flakes were odd, but this stuff threw me for a bit.

Re: Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

Thanks for the input, gents. I have seen here and elsewhere good reviews of the three Kakes that Home&Hearth offers. Those three will be part of my 6-pack sampler, for sure.

Any comments or suggestions on other blends they offer before I place my order?

I second the anni kake and rolandos own and also you may want to try aj's va/par, larrys blend and english stout. I think these are all good Im not a big burley smoker 80% va and va/par and 20% lat blends. Enjoy your sampler.

Re: Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

The good thin about these blends, most of them cost about $30 for a pound. Easy to buy, easy to cellar, very easy to smoke!

Oh, and I only mention that because you WILL end up buying pounds. It's just a fact.

I also have AJ's VaPer, by the way. Forgot to mention that fact. It's a decent vaper, just a bit "sharper" than Anni Kake. I prefer the mellow, deeply intoxicating stroll that anni kake delivers, but some may prefer AJ's.

If you end up not ordering AJ's and wish to sample, send me a PM. I have a bit that I can part with.

Re: Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

Anniversary Kake is delicious & mellow, AJ's Vaper is a little less mellow but also quite tasty, Sunza Bitches is also very good, but it's cased lightly (bourbon I believe).

These are the only three I've tried & they're all delicious in their own way!

Re: Favorite bulk 6-pack sampler from Hearth&Home

After some deliberation and weighing the input here, I've decided to fill out the balance of my sampler with:

Old Companion
Rolando's Own
LJ Heart Virginia

This ought to be sufficient to get my feet wet for a little while.

WWhermit, I appreciate your advice and offer for a bowlful or two of AJ's VaPer. I'd be interested in comparing it with Rolando's Own and Anniversary Kake. I'll send you a PM. I'll be ordering Rolando's Own, so I'd be happy to reciprocate with some of that if you're interested. You are probably correct that subsequent orders will be for pound-size quantities.

You are nearly there. Just find pipe tobacco, then bulk blends, then hearth and home. All of their blends are listed there with their descriptions.
