Aged at the store
Stopped in today at a tiny B&M I haven't visited in many years. The last time I was there was to purchase cigars but their walk in humi was badly over humidified and many of the cigars were covered with mold, so I just never went back. I happened to be in the neighborhood today and decided to stop and see what they had for pipe tobacco. There were a number of tins stacked on shelves lining the walls and the first thing that caught my eye was a badly faded can of McClelland's Christmas Cheer. I asked the gentleman behind the counter what year it was from. "2005" he said "We don't sell much in tins, most people buy bulk. We have tins that have been here a lot longer then that." He showed me the date sticker on the bottom of another tin and said "See, this has been here since 2001." I walked out of there with the can of Christmas Cheer, tins of Escudo Navy Deluxe and Esoterica Tillsbury from 2005 and a tin of McConnell Maduro from 2001. Who needs a cellar when I can buy it already aged? Next paycheck I'm going down there and going on a spree.

Re: Aged at the store
Sweet score! My online CC source offers boxes of cigars that have been aged for a few years, but they charge extra for them... You got the tins at the usual cost??

Re: Aged at the store
They do have Dunhill there but whenever I get close to something with that name on it my credit card groans, so I didn't notice what it was. I'll check next weekend.

Re: Aged at the store
That's the way the shop down the street is. I have 5 year old tins of Larsen, Paul Olsen that may be older than that, and some stuff that may be over ten years old....going back to before the current owners bought the shop. No one ever seems to buy the old stuff either. I guess I will.

Re: Aged at the store
Very good find. So far the oldest tins I have found in a B&M was a 2 year old tin of Frog Morton.

Re: Aged at the store
Those can be great finds. I have scored many a 5+ year old time of McClellands and GLP.
