Hi Croatan,

Haven't tried any Dunhills yet...I guess they're not what they used to be!

There is indeed! The problem is in trying to get your hands on the stuff! Most supermarkets and tobacconists only carry a small selection of pipe tobaccos - usually a choice of two, that will probably be Old Bruno and Condor. For a bigger choice you have to hunt down a specialist tobacconist and there aren't that many of them around.

I live in Robin Hood country and fortunately there is a good outlet - Gauntleys of Nottingham - that isn't too far away that carries a good range of Peterson, Dunhill, Mac Baren, Samuel Gawith, Robert McConnell and Gawith Hoggarth tobaccos. I've also managed to get them to get in some Rattrays - Old Gowrie and Marlin Flake - as well.

Youre very lucky, i think the nearest decent tobbaconist is probably in bristol, which is a hell of a long way to go for a bit of baccy. I cant even find any in supermarkets, where do you find it? its a little bit annoying really, i really want to start pipe smoking and restoring, i have restored my first two pipes quite sucessfully but i havnt yet had my first bowl of tobacco!

oh well, the search continues!

Try The Tobacco Bar at 126 Cornwall Street (West) in Plymouth City Centre - it is a specialist tobacconist. The Tobacco Bar claims to stock a wide range of pipe tobacco, as well as pipes including Petersons etc. Its open Monday to Saturday from 8.00am to 5.30pm. Tel: 01752 266270

Re: Hi from a newbie!

Greetings Irish Bob and welcome to Club Stogie. You have some great pipes there and your tobacco selection is good as well.

I think that our selection has something to do with our tax system versus Europe's, since a lot of the tinned stuff like MacBaren's comes from Europe.

Again welcome to the club and yes there are Kiwis on this board. Go up to the cigar forums and introduce yourself there and they will find you.

Thanks for the welcome Charles! Taxes and duty are pretty stiff here in Europe...I'm amazed at great deals you can get in the USA. Glad to hear there are a few Kiwis on board...will check out the cigar forums.

Re: Hi from a newbie!

Your very welcome. Over the last 18 years I've live 7 in Europe and 1 in Canada so I have some experience with various ways govts like to rip off their citizens, to include the US, and try to pass off the sh$t sandwich as roast beef on wheat!

Good luck to you and have a safe move.
