How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
OK I have been smoking pipes since before I was legal to, and I am 27 now. When I came to college I tried many different types of tobacco, but they were all store blends. I never even considered any tin tobaccos. Now that I have tried pretty much every store blend at my B&M I stick to one or two blends that I especially like (English Haven & Mountain Mist), but I still have never tried any tin tobaccos.
I found if I buy a 16oz bag of tobacco, I can smoke it every time and not worry about which pipes have had aromatics/englishes/etc smoked in them. However, I am interested in trying some tin tobaccos since I will be moving within the next 6 months and I will have to either find a new store blend from a B&M where I move, or just order online which would probably be easier since I have a feeling I am moving to a remote area. So my post has two questions 1) For those that smoke many different flavors, how many do y'all have and do y'all smoke them all in different pipes, or do you just not pay attention. 2) Assuming the English Haven is an English blend, what Tin tobacco do y'all recommend, with not much tongue bite. I am not sure what the Mountain Mist is, a slight aromatic perhaps... oh sheesh maybe I should just start all over again ![]() And yes I have been reading thru the tobacco reviews up at the top of the page. Thanks!

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
I have somewhere between 75 and 100 different blends, but I don't know how many "flavors". I buy mostly English, Virginias, and Balkan blends and really don't worry too much about which pipe I smoke them in. I do try to smoke mainly Virginias in a certain couple of pipes, but if I happen to smoke a different blend in them, I don't worry. I don't keep many aromatics, but those do get their own pipe.
As far as tins go, I always suggest trying Duhill 965 as many consider it the benchmark English; personally, I prefer the stronger Dunhill English mixtures like My Mixture and Nightcap. That being said, my favorite readily-available tinned tobacco has been Esoterica's Penzance for quite a while now. Good luck in your search and if you ever make it through Fort Worth, drop me a line and we'll smoke a few bowls. |

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
I have five or six different blends. A couple have a tad of latakia, but I'm not a big English blend fan. Knowledge is power, so educate yourself. I suggest three websites for you to check out. First is http://www.tobaccoreviews.com/index.cfm . It's a great place to check out hundreds of blends from everywhere. The second is Pipeworks & Wilke http://www.vtpipes.com/index.html . All of Carole's blends are her own, however, she does an exclusive mail order business, and can blend almost anything you want. Nothing tinned here. I have a sample pack from her on the way. Everything I've read has been rave reviews. Third is L. J. Peretti of Boston. http://www.ljperetti.com/index.html This is another old time tobacconist from the 19th century. Peretti's Virginia flake and their burley blend are excellent! They also carry tinned tobaccos. Even if you only order a sampler from each, You will learn a bit more of what you like and don't like. Pipeworks and Peretti don't carry heavily cased tobaccos. Hope this helps.

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
OK I went to my B&M and found out what I like, or at least what I think I like
English Haven = HGL = Lane Limited HGL Mountain Mist = 1Q = Lane Limited 1-Q It looks as though I like the milder ones :s I also got a tin of Dunhill My Mixture 965 and Mac Baron Virginia-1 They didn't have the others suggested and I wanted to try a Virginia blend I will probably order a few sample packs here in a short while so I can learn more about them. Thanks for the blend suggestions and the websites!

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
Since I smoke usually only one or two blends I do not worry too much about different pipes for different blends, that is something to think about and ponder while I smoke the one pipe I have with me.

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
only flavored tobacco i smoke is macbaren vanilla loose cut. i have smoked momoyama (not the II blend they make now). i do however keep certain types of tobaccos smoked in certain pipes. if i find a blend i really like i will dedicate a pipe or pipes to it. i smoke 75 percent virginias so i keep pipes for them then va/perique, english, and balkan i do the same. some aromatics imo tend to flavor the bowl which i do not care for. just my opinion.

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
In terms of flavoured tobacco I really like Mac Baren's Vanilla Cream Flake (brought four tins of the stuff with me to NZ) and the occasional bowl of Peterson's Sunset Breeze. Otherwise it's Squadron Leader, Oriental or Condor, (picked up a few duty free pouches of Condor at Heathrow on the way out here).

2. For light to medium english type blends I would recommend the Dunhill EMP, Dunhill 965, any of the Frog Mortons, Penzance. The only aromatic I like is chocolate flake, both the G&H and SG versions, seems many of my non-aromatic smoker friends enjoy that as well. Bob |

Re: How many tobacco flavors do y'all smoke?
Right now, I am on my 3rd different blend. I have liked all 3.
I know that the first two were made by my local shop (Smooth, and a Latakia blend called Pastoral.) BUt I also bought IQ, a Golden Cavendish blend that is also very good. I tried Penzance, and absolutely HATED it. It left a very unpleasant tate in my mouth that didn't want to go way. |
