Who all here is a member at pipes.organd their forum? I am curious because I joined that one a few years ago, but have never really posted much since you have to wait and wait until your post gets approved (edited if need be) before it is posted. Then you have to wait and wait and wait for any replies. They are grat people but the format I can do without, that's the main reason why I came here. I prefer this format (type, post, done) a whole lot more than that other. I still pop in from time to time but since I found this one I doubt I will as much.

The reason why I asked was I followed the frank method of packing a bowl links from the Second day with the pipe - any suggestions? and it took me right back to pipes.org.

yes I have tried the Frank method back when I discovered pipes.org a few years back, but my method works best for me Its hard to explain, mostly experience I guess though.

Re: pipes.org

Personally, I think following a method is a good way to start, but one shouldn't confine oneself to a simple method. I used the three pinch method for a long time while I was learning, but now I just dip my pipe right in the tobacco, tamp, and dip again until the bowl is full. It's not the prettiest way to fill a pipe, but it's the method on which I've settled.

I joined there quite a few years ago, read a whole lot, but never posted much. Now I go over there and read only occasionally.

Pretty much. As a reference / research tool pipes.org can be very useful, but as a social community it leaves much to be desired.

In other words, the beer's better here.

I had an account on pipes.org a while ago, I also found the format to be somewhat difficult. I dont use it anymore, although there was a pletora of pipe knowledge over there.........

Re: pipes.org

yep - I agree with allof the above.

Smokersforums.com is another pipe focused(as this site is Cigar focused) site that uses a format similar to this one - not quite as free spirited, but very friendly nonetheless.

Re: pipes.org

I'm a member there too...mostly just read...make an occassional post...heavy censorship there but I guess the board owner can do what he wants...I guess his basic concept is if you don't like it you can go elsewhere...the other pipe forum link is here:

There's no either/or situation here...this board is primarily a cigar board with a pipe forum...the other is a pipe board with a cigar forum...the main thrust of the two boards is different...

Re: pipes.org

I too got sick of the pipes.org forum format. Gave up on it very quickly as I'd already been to this site and enjoyed it fine. Went back a couple of times and never found my way around well enough to enjoy the experience.
