Tinned tobacco
Been smoking bulk pipe tobacco since the 80’s, have never smoked a tinned tobacco. Mostly smoke English Cavendish, an occasional English blend and very infrequently a vanilla aromatic.
The tobacconist I went to for years is no longer, I’m not satisfied with the blends at the one local shop, and I want a high level of consistency in the tobacco. Ordering a couple of new pipes this week, I want to get three or four tins of tobacco at the same time, and add a bit more variety. Going to try MacBaren’s Vanilla Cream and or the vanilla cream flake cut, unless something else comes highly recommended. Looking for recommendations for; A good English blend. An English Cavendish, no cherry, chocolate or other heavy flavors that mask the tobacco. Something medium to full in flavor and body, maybe a good blend of Burley, Virginia and Cavendish. Any thoughts, suggestion, comments or idea’s? p.s. When trying a new tobacco/blend of tobacco, I buy 2 - 4 oz and smoke all or most of it before deciding whether or not to get more (unless it’s really bad). I’m not worried about getting a tin of tobacco I simply don’t care for. I’ll offer it up for trade or as part of a sampler, better than trashing it. My wife hates the aroma of Latakia (says it smells like smoldering twigs, leaves and moss), so I don’t smoke blends with it indoors when she’s home.

Re: Tinned tobacco
My guess would be to go through the various tobacco reviews and read them to find something that might appeal to you. Lots of great reviews and input there. Good luck with your search.

Re: Tinned tobacco
Keep in mind that smokingpipes.com carries a lot of premium blends in a bulk packaging, as well, in case you like the flexibility of buying bulk.

Penzance or Dunhill My Mixture 965 (Something medium to full in flavor and body, maybe a good blend of Burley, Virginia and Cavendish.) Pete's Irish Oak my couple of pennies, tossed into the selection process. btw: What pipes are you ordering ?? |

Re: Tinned tobacco
I really like the bottom 2 ... esp. that dual-stem. Just picked myself up a Karl Erik over the weekend & am finding that I really like it. It's a great lil' smoker...'tis not near as hefty-looking as that KE freehand though.

Re: Tinned tobacco
I really like pipes #2 & 3. As for tobacco, I'd agree with the previous recommendation. For an English, I'd add in any of the Frog Mortons, the Sam G. Squadron Leader, and (so a couple of folks I know don't kill me) Dunhill Nightcap. I really like the McClelland Royal Cajun Ebony and the McConnell Scottish Cake for your second category. And for an aromatic, the Mac Baren Vanilla Cream is pretty darned good -- I'll smoke it a couple of times a week when I'm craving vanilla.

Buying 4 or 5 different tobaccos at one time, I like the tin idea. Just leave it unopened until I'm ready to try it, rather then ordering one as I finish one.

Re: Tinned tobacco
reiner long golden flake is a great burley blend. it doesn't have the strong nicotene like the c&d blends but it is mellow and has a good burley flavor that is meduim in strength.

Obviously, you'll receive a host of suggestions, so you may want to look at the reviews on them at www.tobaccorevies.com
For the two below, that you asked about, I highly recommend Count Pulaski which is a medium to full, outstanding English Blend and it only come in bulk. You will not be disappointed. For an English with some Cavandish and Burly, you should be very please with Country Doctor. It is an outsatnding tobacco, very often overlooked. A good English blend. An English Cavendish Johnny |

Re: Tinned tobacco
Damn near sold on the Erik, I like the style of both Mastro Beraldi pipes, the grain on the second one is striking though.

Re: Tinned tobacco
MacBaren's Vanilla creme is quite good, CAO/DAN's Vanilla Honeydew is also a very good aromatic as well.
