Minor Pipe Repair

Ok, I got a question for all of you fine folks here in the Pipe Forum. Recently I lit up a fine pipe of Ashton's Artisan's Blend, smoked it down, then brought the pipe inside. I set it down, went about my business, and let the pipe cool. The next day, packing up for going home, I picked up the pipe, and was about to wrap it in bubble wrap, when I noted a small crack in the shank. I wiggled it, and to my surprise, a circular chunk of briar lifted out quite easily. Its nothing super big, its just a small half-circle of briar came off of the shank, nearest the connection to the pipe's stem. Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm thinking wood glue and patience. Thoughts?

Re: Minor Pipe Repair

If it's a highly valued pipe (both dollar wise and personal) than I would send it to a pipe repair shop, such as Walker Briar Works. If it's just a cheapy that you don't care about, the I would just try the fix myself.
But I think you may have a problem with regular wood glue due to the higher temperatures and the possibility of the glue becoming toxic when heated and absorbed by the mucous lining of your mouth.

Re: Minor Pipe Repair

Epoxy is your best bet, will hold well and resist high temps.

Re: Minor Pipe Repair

Use regular old white paste...

I ate tons of the stuff in grade school, and there's nothing wrong with me.

Right? ...Hello?
