Mixing your own

Has anyone tried coming up with your own blend/mix?

While scouring the WWW on pipe articles I got sidetracked by a few articles I found on coming up with your own mix.

Anyone tried this? Was it a success or was it doggie doo? It'd be cool to come up with our own CS blend!!!

I think I will leave the blending to the professionals. As for the CS Blend, I think the first try might taste like gorilla poo, but in the end we could get something pretty good.

Re: Mixing your own

I think it'd be tough to arrive at a blend we all like, but maybe we could come up with 2. One of which could be a "lite" version for us unrefinde taste buds!!!

I'm gonna carefully go through the information that I have and see where this leads.

Re: Mixing your own

Big thread jack coming, but I have mixed my own blends-two blends that I blended together, but I have never came up with my own original mixture, like buying blending tobacs and making my own. But onto the thread jack, instead of coming up with a cs tobacco I think we should get a forum pipe.

I don't mind the thread jack. I think both would be an outstanding endeavor and would be just as happy dedicating this thread to both.

I like the idea of our own pipe.

Re: Mixing your own

After I get through reading what I have, I think I'm going to Just For Him and talking to the guys and see what information I can come up with.

Any thoughts as to what direction we want to go with this?

I'm thinking of English as a starting point. Any thoughts?

I tinker with it all the time and what might be a total disaster from my point of few, so the speak, might very well be a blend that others find to be quite tasty. It's really no different than going into your local B&M buying an oz. of 25 blends and giving them all a try. If I had to guess, you would probably not find more than 4 or 5 that you would be willing to plunk down the money for a pound of the stuff.

If I'm trying to create an aromatic blend, I typically start with what I would call a neutral blend or tobacco such as Lane's BCA or Altadis black cavendish that has sweetness to it, but not a strong overpowering flavor, and then add various other tobaccos, both flavored and unflavored and see what I come up with. Most of the time it's not particularly good, but once in a while I will hit on one that I find really tasty. (from my point of few)

It's just something I've always enjoyed doing and it's basically the same method most B&Ms create their house blends. Trial and error. Ya never know what somthing's gonna taste like until you mix it up and put the flame to it.
