Re: Forum Pipe Pricing

I realize you stated not to post unless it was a pseudo order so to speak, but I see a couple of things that might need to be looked at before making any final decisions.

It would be great to have all the pipes made by one carver, but I can see why your asking how many individuals are willing to commit at 150.00. If the number should become fairly large, we could be looking at delivery times in excess of 6 months.

Also if this is going to be a one time (2007) project (which might be a good idea from the standpoint of future estate values) is the 150.00 price going to be carved in stone? Personally I think some flexibility might be very useful on both ends of the spectrum. Let's face it, there are some who just cannot afford 150.00 for another pipe, but might be interested if the price could be brought down into the 60.00 - 100.00 range. Also, there may be some who would be willing to spend considerably more for that "once in a lifetime" pipe that would carry the CS logo.

I realize this is probably only going to muddy up the waters, but I can see problems with trying to "pin down" one carver to a specific number of pipes all to be sold at the same price. It's not going to be an easy undertaking however one decides to do this, but I think offering some options not only in the price and design of the pipe, but the carver as well, might attract more interest than offering "clones" all to be sold at the same price, and if more than one carver is used, should also shorten the waiting time for the delivery of the pipes. I don't know. Just some thoughts.

Oh, almost forgot, yes I would be interested.

IHT - we are going with only 1 carver. we know it will possibly take in excess of 6 months. we don't think the # will be fairly large (my bet was around 12-15 total).

Also if this is going to be a one time (2007) project (which might be a good idea from the standpoint of future estate values) is the 150.00 price going to be carved in stone? IHT - it won't have the "CS logo" on it, just "CS 2007" inscribed. there was talk about a "stamp" being made, but that would cost a lot more.
the $150 was a median price, if i interpret the emails i've been forwarded correctly. if you check Tinskys website for his past pipes made for Xmas and/or for forums, he has a variety of finishes (coral/sandblast/black & tan/etc) and they drive the price based on quality of briar. like i said previously, a few may be as cheap as $130, and a few may be more than $300.
and, IMO, i don't think we could find any carvers willing to be as cheap as $60 and still be a pipe i'd want to purchase. seems like the majority of "carvers" do things themselves and by hand. if it were a large factory operation like stanwell/savinelli/bjarne, then maybe we could get below the $100 mark, and we may still look into that. this is still early in the game.

I realize this is probably only going to muddy up the waters, but I can see problems with trying to "pin down" one carver to a specific number of pipes all to be sold at the same price. IHT - not all the pipes will cost that same, see my response to the above paragraph. we've had a couple carvers (out of the few that've been contacted) that said they'd do it. i highly, highly doubt that we'll have a large # (by large, i'm talking 25+) wanting to drop $130-300 on a pipe. they all won't be the same, and i thought once the shape is picked out, maybe we can ask the carver if they will allow us to choose a finish - that way someone who wants a "black & tan" can get one, and someone who wants the cheaper "coral" carved pipes can get one (and keep the price cheap). see what i mean, that may help with some of the pricing issues, i'd think.

Oh, almost forgot, yes I would be interested.

Re: Forum Pipe Pricing

I put a little more thought into this and as long as it is a nice looking pipe (i'm sure it will be) I would pay up to $200.

This is a CS Pipe so gotta have one. (May not be another)
