Balkan Sobranie in the pouch...
I have seen several auctions lately for BS in the 50g pouch, anybody tried this? It is much cheaper than in the tin, however I am sure that the plastic pouch doesn't do nearly the same job of preserving the tobacco.
Anyone have any experience with tin vs pouch sobranie? Thanks, Tim |

I am by no means a pro at vintage tobak, but I believe they are two seperate belnds. Need to get Bruce in here to set us straight. He knows his vintage weed.

Re: Balkan Sobranie in the pouch...
This is the "new" blend, not quite like the old BS. Apparently it lacks some of the rare orientals that the "old" BS has....yenidjie, macedonian, ect.
Still quite good, but there is a distinct difference in flavor. |

Re: Balkan Sobranie in the pouch...
PS: The pouches are still available for sale in Italy for around $20 bucks a pouch.

These are definitely the newest blend! They stop producing the original blend pouches, that still contained Yenidjie & Macedonian (the key tobaccos) in 1996. The newer version was first released right around 2000 and was sold exclusively, at first, in Japan. A couple of years later, it became available, in Europe, in very limited markets. It is very good, but it is not even close to the true original blend. It's not a steal at $30 but it's probably worth it, if it's a must try for you and the S&H is not too bad. I am no expert, but for me, it's seems almost identical to Balkan Sasieni, which can be had for about $6 a pouch. Just my Johnny |

Re: Balkan Sobranie in the pouch...
Thanks gents! I'll give the pouch a whirl but someday I have just got to bite the bullet and drop $100 on a tin....
As an aside, lately I have been smoking Compton's Macedonian, I love the stuff. It gets compared to BS on a pretty regular basis but I have no benchmark for comparrison. |
