I think the best turn out we had at Jim's herfs last year was when we had a box pass. Maybe we should put something like that together. (It's not fair to ask Jim to do it every time.) Maybe we could all throw in a percentage of the sticks to start it off. Just a thought.

Sounds like a great idea. I too don't think it's fair to ask Jim to do anything more.... he's already allowing us to use he's space.
So how does a box press work? Do we just pile a certain number of sticks in a box and pass it around? Or is there more to it?

Roughly it works like this. You start with a box of cigars and people take turns swapping out smokes. Generally ISOM (or high end) for ISOM, live value for like value. Somebody writes down the puts and takes and we put it up here on CigarLive to make everybody incredibly jealous! (And entice them to come to the next one!)

I'd probably recommend everybody puts in a couple of smokes half high end (or ISOM) and half more budget minded, so everyone can play, regardless of wallet thickness. And of course, Jim's stock is always available to buy some trade fodder! (EDIT: Or it might be more fun to go all high end. It all depends on the players.)

I think that covers it, did I leave anything out Jim? I've never actually run one myself, but it seemed pretty straight forward.

Cool Herf's Up!!!!

Working nights, (Monday night - Friday night) means I typically spend most of Saturday asleep or in a semi-comatose state. That being said, it is quite a trip for us down here in Henry County, but I would still try to at least make a few of the herfs whenever possible. Sunday afternoons would be great!

(Does anything ever happen on the southside of ATL???)

That's understandable. Post your response to the original thread so we have down as interested. I live north of Atlanta. But the Highland Cigar Bar is just south of I-20 www.highlandcigar.com. That about as far south as I go. It's a nice place with nice people.

Any decisions as to when we're gonna start this off? I still like the idea, and should be able to set aside some time for it whichever evening we agree on.

I was saying to Jim I think it would be a good idea to start the month following the CL smoke across America. That way we could use that meet as momentum to launch the monthly herf ... Say the first Saturday of every month. That way there no confusing about herf dates. What do you think about that?

It will work for me... you can start anytime and end anytime (til about midnight)!

As far as a box pass goes- it's best if one person is the pass host and brings about 20 cigars. Then each person gets the box and trades some of what he has for some of what he wants. Generally, one for one and quality for quality. The host gets the box back after everyone has played.

Look forward to seeing ya'll!

Jim

Yes. You would want the cigars to be of varying size and price so that everyone could participate.

Jim, can we just put a roll away bed in the shop for me? Might be easier than my drive home

Sunday noon – until can work better then Saturdays for the long run as Saturdays tend to get busy with other events. On other hand, Saturdays are better for people who have long drive, like to party late, and have to work on Mondays (Anybody ever met those people?).
