A thread close to my heart My collection is small, but the Sig P239 that I picked up last year is my favorite pistol I've owned/shot. Very smooth shooter. Interestingly enough, my girlfriend was very anti-gun (I imported a city-girl who only saw what happens when the only people that own firearms are thugs). It took me about a month to get her to try it and now she asks me "Honey, when are we going shooting again?"

Thanks man...that picture is gorgeous. I might end up picking up a full-size Sig in .45 at some point, but the P239 is a great fit for concealed carry. I got a great deal on it at the local gunshop. A cop had traded it in (it was his backup piece) so I got it with the installed night-sites and 3 mags for $450. Brand new it'd have gone for $650-700 around here.

You know, that's a tough call for me. I had a Glock 23 before this that I really loved, but sold to a friend so that I could afford the Sig. I don't regret doing it, as it was a worthwhile "trade", but the Glock is a really solid piece as well. They take abuse like a champ if they have to, they always go boom when you pull the trigger, and their manual of arms is very simple. The biggest problem with my Glock was that my girlfriend just couldn't wrap her hands around the thing well enough to maintain solid control of it, which is why I went to the single-stacked Sig. I think both Glocks and Sigs are great pistols and recommend either of them to people that ask...which one a person will like better really depends on their own personal preferences in the end.

Maybe...

But my buddy bought a Glock 9mm.... new.... we went shotting and his broke on the 3 mag.....

I also think they are ugly as shit....

I personnally luve the 1911 ......... my FAVORITE handgun by far..... but the sig is the one ... if I had to put my life on the line and use an automatic.... Sig would win hands down. (For me at least)

Oh... I forgot... I hate guns. Guns kill people.....

Interesting...mine was 6 years old and had probably around 10k rounds through it when I sold it to my buddy and the only failure to fire that I ever experienced was due to a hard primer (junk Wolf ammo that I'll never buy again). I suppose any of them can have a problem though given the numbers they produce. I've shot several 1911's and have to say I wasn't all that excited by them. 2 of them had several FTF's due to stovepiping or jamming of some sort and the 3rd would lock the slide back after ever shot. I agree though, if my life has got to be on the line and my answer is a pistol, it will be a Sig in my hands.

Oh, as to Glock's bein ugly...no argument, they are horribly ugly...but that's just part of their charm

I love the look of em, don't get me wrong. Maybe I just haven't had the chance to play with a good one and that would change my mind.

I agree.....

the 1911 is a bit picky....

and if you don't keep the carbon build up down.... the stove and jam.....

Ammo is a huge issue too.....

And so is shot placement. You either know how to shoot a 1911 , or you don't. Way to may people anitisipate recoil and shoot low.

Yeah...I don't mind having to keep the weapon immaculate...although that's not an issue with Glocks or my Sig as I've neglected them both at times and they still worked flawlessly. The reacting to recoil thing can be an issue with anyone though...I'm still working with the girlfriend to overcome that. She'll get it with practice though.

The way I instruct to over come that is:

- Have them assume the standing possition two hand grasp.
- UNLOADED of COURSE
- Tap the front of the muzzle with a book..... systematicly....
- every 4th of 5th "bump"......... act like you are going to tap the muzzle..... BUT DON't.... just before the book would hit the gun barrel....

- They will see for themselves that they will PUSH forward.... to anticipate the simulated recoil of the book.

When they no longer push forward when you fake them out and do NOT strick the barrel with the book.......

They get it.....

Hard to do yourself... let a lone, teaching it...

did that all make any sense?

That makes perfect sense actually...I'll have to give that a try. Another method I've used til now is practicing with "snap caps" which helps incorporate the trigger pull into the exercise. It really works if you load the mags with real rounds and substitute a snap cap somewhere in the middle
