Naw, she's a liberal..... Afraid she might hurt someone... Probably throw rocks if she thought she could get away with it..... Yup, he's looking at the XD. Fooled around with my .45 ACP and liked the feel a lot.

Won't go wrong with the XD, but make sure she handles it before laying down the cash. They've got a bit of a thicker grip and if she doesn't like the way it feels in her hand, she's not going to shoot it. As to 9mm vs 357 vs 38 vs whatever...well, my 9mm's will do just fine as long as I do my job puttin em where they belong

I agree: shot placement is key --a hit with a .22 is better than a miss with a .44-- but I was trying to grasp the recoil thing. If she's got a .357, then she can shoot .38, and a .38 will have less recoil than a 9mm, for sure.

But hey, whadda I know? I prefer the flying ashtray. Heh.

Re: XD: I know people that have 'em and love 'em. I've tried them, but it's not a fit for me. I'm at a loss to comprehend the attraction and "handgun of the year" awards. To my mind, they're quite Glock-ish.

Later!

I agree... that they look quite "Glockish". I think the huge attraction is...

- Springfield - Awesome gun maker. Far better than Glock.
- A real safty. That trigger safety on the Glock is for shit.
- All the accessories that COME with the XD. Hoslter, 2 mags, Mag Holster, speed loader, and i think I'm still missing a few things.
- Price Point. some places are selling ALL of the above, NEW...... 45 ACP even, for $509 bucks! And for being a Springfield..... just is icing on the cake.

All in my humble opinon......

Guess you can tell what I think about Glocks.........

CM, have a question for you.

I bought a Wilson Combat, bevertail safety for my Essex

What do you use to remove the excess frame material to fit this ?

I have a couple of Dremels, what bits ?, or how are you fitting yours.

I need to get on the ball and finish this.

Anyone else have any long slide Colt .45 parts, laying around, that they might trade ?

Need Slide, long bbl,( want to put a comp on it) or thread for suppressor.

I have a few small parts around... but nothing like you are asking for, sorry bro...

I do use a dremel. I start with the most corse I have...... saves time.... and then the very very fine ones to polish the work after you get it to fit and function perfect.

Here's a few suggestions:

- ALWAYS try to dremel the bevertail.... more than the frame. That way you can take it off and fit it on other 1911 in the future. It also lets you make the gun stock again, sould you ever want to do that, just incase you want to sell it later and keep your tail for another piece. (That's what SHE SAID...hahhaa)

- Remember to TAKE YOUR TIME! YOu can always take some off... but can't put it back on once you grid it..... (Yes ... she said that too... haha)

- Hold steady and hold the pieces solid..... because the dremel will want to run-a-way and can scar your peice in places you don't want it to touch.

- Hold the metals with an old t-shirt or cloth... the damn thing gets hot with all the friction.... (DAMN she said that too..... hahha)

Good luck bro. You have some nice pieces there to work with.

Thanks Michael !

It could never me made back original, the Essex is a high quality aftermarket frame and all other parts are Wilson Combat.

I have the titanium firing pin and springs and pin kit for the top (Wilson) + 2 Wilson 8 rd SS mags

So I guess I need a BBl, slide and maybe an extractor, and the slide that fits over the head of the firing pin.

Will post pics when finished, well the progress.

There has to be some reason these are still in use since 1911.

The shear force of .45, with Black Talons, or Hydra Shocks, is awesome!!!!
