Ethiopian Harar

I hadnt seen very many reviews on actual coffee beans so I thought I would throw one out.

I had this the other day at a local coffee shop/roaster. Very good flavor. Not as bitter as some of the fuller bodied blends. Would hvae gone great with a cigar. I am definately going to pick up a pound of these and do a little experimenting with the roasting. Anyone else indulge in these?

Re: Ethiopian Harar

Harrar can be a tricky bean to roast, but I like it. Did you get the famous "blueberry" taste/aroma from the bag you picked up when you brewed it? Sweet Marias usually has a nice selection of green harrar take a look at what they have if you're in the market for some. MAO (sometimes referred to as "Horse" is considered to be one of the best.Let us know how it turns out.

Re: Ethiopian Harar

I actually didnt brew it myself. I have a coffee shop here that also does roasting. I will be buying green beans from them. They have three types of coffee brewing at alll times and this was what I tried.

Re: Ethiopian Harar

I prefer the Hara to the Yirg. If you do buy green beans from Sweet Marias, the FTO Harar is a little better than the MAO Horse. I have found that Ethiopians need to stay away from second crack. If you have a roaster that has adjustable time and temp, increasae the time and gradually bring up the temp. Harar should be no more than City+.

Yup. Same thing, imo. It seems to taste better roasted a little light in the pants...

I'll eat these words. Last night I cupped a SPECTACULAR Fair Trade Harrar "Oromia". Syrupy, spicy, loads of fruit jam, caramel, floral, the works. Have not had one this good in a long time. So good we actually brewed a pot for consumption. We NEVER do that. Wow.

I think we are at the first crack of a Harrar comeback.

I will have this on my site June 20. A small amount of Oromia will be available in green, PM me how much you are interested in. Serious only.

Same price structure as Negrita on my site.

I assume the quantities listed under homeroasters are in 1 lb increments although it is not specified.
