Re: Roasting Newbie

My humble advice for someone just getting started - buy this package. It will greatly simplify the initial process of gearing up and you'll be able to roast the day it arrives. Kills three birds with one stone.

You get:
  • Roaster
  • Grinder
  • 5.5 lbs of beans

Search the coffee forum here, check out what sweet maria's has to offer. Also head over to coffeegeek and do some reading.

Re: Roasting Newbie

I would take Jeff's advise of starting out with the Fresh Roast. It is an easy to use machine that will give you decent results.

Sweet Maria's has very good coffee, but you can find cheaper coffee elsewhere. I only buy from them because I trust their opinion.

Re: Roasting Newbie

Once you purchase your equipment, you will be light years ahead if you pay close attention to the sight, sounds and most importantly, smell of the beans while you are roasting them. There is a ton of information out there. So much so that you may get bogged down in the middle of it all. If you find this happening, ask someone around here who home roasts help you understand. I am sure they can help you along. I know the fella who posted just prior to mine did it for me.
