Jose Oliva Email on V

This is a cut and paste from an email from Jose Oliva:

Some Tidbits About the V:
Making an atomic cigar is easy, it only requires packing a cigar with ligero. The real challenge is balancing. The Serie V is a full body smoke with a perfect balance of strength and flavor. We selected only Jalapa Ligeros rather than the more atomic Esteli Ligero. We specially fermented the leaves to bring out all of its strength while allowing the unpleasent ammonias to settle.

Next we chose a wrapper that could add additional body to the blend. We chose a high priming Habano Sun Grown. The higher priming is thicker and oilier as a result of its direct exposure to the elements as it sits high on the tobacco plant.

We achieved the last bit of extra body by making mostly large ring gauge cigars. This delivers greater flavor without compromising the blend.

Smoking the V:
Ligero burns slower so expect a slower burning smoke. The strength in a cigar is also controlled by the temperature at which it is smoked. The faster you puff at it the hotter it gets and subsequently stronger. Take slow deliberate draws and to allow for the tasting of the smoke as it escapes your mouth.

The myth about full body cigars:
A full body cigar should be felt in the pit of your stomach, not on you palate or throat. The cigar should deliver smooth full tobacco flavor. The aroma of the cigar is also a very telling factor of the body of the cigar.

Fact: All V rollers are paid salary rather than by production. The cigar is finished with a Cuban cap.
