Question Help us with protocol:

Everyday we talk to manufacturers, retailers and other members of the tobacco industry. With very interesting bits of information coming across the desk. It it ok to share some of this information at Puff.

As we don't wish to offend!

Just got off the phone with my friend Kinky Friedman. Kinky's quote for the day. I had to take a cold shower today. And my damn cigar went out while I was in there.....

Kinky also has his own cigar brand mostly for personal consumption. As it's not umcommon to go thru a box in one day or several when friends are around.

P.S. Kinky said if you feel like bombing him with cigars. He'll hold a space at the pearl gates of the Alamo for ya! Then speak highly you of you in his own personal cigar rhetorical reviews.

On another note Alberto Medina will be launching his new PIO Resurrection to market very soon.

He informed us it will only be made available to 100 stores nationally. We will update you with a few of the stores when we find out.

Here's his description. They are also listed in the new Cigar Insider as Alberto Medina is re-emerging into the cigar marketplace after severals years of absence from Trademark name issues now resolved.

BOX PRESSED BOUTIQUE CIGAR
Connecticut-Broadleaf
"Maduro"

Made By Hand in Miami Florida

We are Brick & Mortar Tobacconist Association. Newly formed at the end of 2008. We're built around helping Brick & Mortar stores around the country and everyday we are improving our relationships with cigarmakers. As we had only visited a few cigar factories until recently.

sounds like an awesome idea! i love the idea of supporting the b&m's

on a side note are there any requirements to be a part of it from a stores standpoint? for instance do you all help promote all b&m's in general, do you have a list of supporting b&m's etc? would you guys help support a b&m that blatantly overcharges for cigars ($35 opus, etc)?

very interested in the idea and just curious! website by chance?

Re: Help us with protocol:

Now I am no big city lawyer but wouldn't the success of a B&M depend more on building better relationships with customers instead of cigar companies.

Now I am not telling you how to run your association (unless you pay me) but coming on to a cigar forum full of cigar smokers and telling me your going to be bettering my B&Ms realtionships with cigar manufactures seems like poor use of your time.

Now this is because I only care my B&M gets stock, get the cigars I want, and has a good selection if they and the cigar manufactures golf with the B&M owner on Sundays I don`t care - unless it causes the prices to increase then I care in a bad way.

All the best and please intro yourself in the new peeps thread please tells us about you and your association.

Just my 2 cents but you have me confused. Although information is nice but I would rather see you try to get customers dealing more and more with B&Ms rather then online.

To say the least it's a adventure, but we are in this to help every single Brick & Mortar Tobacconist in this country. They have been hit from every angle regulatory, technologically, taxes, and corporate buyouts. Still they persevere out of love for what they do. This discussion of overcharging has come up several times and far be it for us to tell a store owner how to run his business. It's not good karma though. Fair is fair and most cigars of this nature there's not enough to go around anyway. So limit the purchases but be reasonable.

Point well taken this is our hope to better understand what you want from your local B&M. A large percentage of B&M's are really confused and nervous about the changes in the industry. We would like to help them understand how to use those changes to keep up with their customers needs. As for the manufacturers is started with them, as we began to voice a lot of concerns to them that we were getting from stores. Bottom line the organizations in place to help them. Have failed. We understand the value of B&M's without the tax base regulations could run amuck, taxes could skyrocket and the black market would take over leaving smokers no where to smoke. The internet is a awesome tool. Especially when you can unite common minded leaf lovers like this site has done. Unfortunately it has also evolved so fast some stores feel lost and don't know where to begin to stay recognizable up against the giants born in the last ten years.

P.S. You will hear a lot of chatter from us about B&M's across this country. I'm getting it's OK to relay info on stores. We were testing the waters. We have made it a goal to speak for them so they will begin to understand how much fun it is to let others know what they are doing.

Sean Robinson

Re: Help us with protocol:

I just read an interview with Kinky Friedman in either cigar mag or smoke mag. He is quite a character and I could see him going through some smokes. He also does animal rescue work I believe. I have been curious to try some of his brands but haven't had the chance yet. So many Smokes so little time. You should invite him to join us.
