The Cedar Box and The Merchant

The Cedar Box is in Lee's Summit and the Merchant is in Independence.

The Merchant also sells wine and spirits as well as pipes, but the cigars are a [I]tad[I] bit more than Cedar Box, probably due to taxes. But I frequent the Cedar Box more because it is closer and they look like they are expanding everytime I go in.

Anyone else go to either of these?

I go to the Cigar Box in Chesterfield, as does AFSteve.

I've not been to either - although, I should check them out sometime.

My closest B&M is a small placed called Cigar & Tabac (105th and Metcalf) in Overland Park.

My favorite shop I've been to is Outlaw Cigar near Zona Rosa. Great place with cool monthly parties.

I've heard of Outlaw. I read about it in Cigar Aficianado recently. I've never been but from everything I've read and heard its a fantastic place. Actually, today I'll be at the Cedar Box with a couple of friends celebrating a birthday. They've got a pretty sweet deal, 10% off your cigar if you smoke it in the shop. The only inside place you can smoke in Lee's Summit!

I used to hang out at the Merchant till they got hit with the Independence smoking ban. I go to the Cedar Box a few times a week -- will be spending most of the weekend there watching KU sports!

Yeah, the Merchant has a really cool looking lounge getting no use. My friend talked to the owner and they said that they are trying to get an exemption.

There is a great cigar shop and lounge called The Cedar Box in Alton, Illinois (right across the river from Missouri) that has a great lounge and very good selection of higher end premium cigars and some regular ones too.

I have been to the Merchant and the Cedar Box in Lees Summit. The Merchant has a much larger Humidor than the Cedar Box, but alas...you can not smoke there! The Cedar box is nice for a small place. I have been to Outlaw and I do like it. The only problem I have with it is...I am 40 Minutes away!

Yeah, about that exemption that the Merchant was trying to get.....the city said "No!" So the last time I went in there they had a "moving sale" on all their wines and when I asked where they were moving to the guy at the counter said, "somewhere that lets us smoke." My friend also asked and the guy gave a great response, he said, "yeah, we're giving the finger to Independence" (the city where the Merchant is located)

So I guess the thought is to move to either Lee's Summit or Blue Springs. Blue Springs I don't think has a smoking ban...Lee's Summit does but they exempt tobacco shops...so it will be interesting to see where they end up. Hopefully closer to me! I just bought a pipe there and they're the closest place for me to continue my pipe smoking!

The Merchant is moving to Blue Springs -- which does have a smoking ban but it exempts cigar shops. They are planning on opening on August 4.

The Merchant is now open in Blue Springs. I stopped by there after work yesterday. It is going to be pretty nice once they are done with it (they are still unpacking).
