Jazz music, especially Bill Evans, enhances the mood a lot.

Absolutely. The opening and cadenza of 4, the middle movement of 5, and that wonderful slow movement of symphony 7 are all some of my favorite moments in music.

I don't really have a preference as to what is being played (although there are a few genres and bands that pi$$ me off!). I usually put on some country or softer rock (Pink Floyd, The Doors, Reverend Horton Heat on occasion). I don't know if there's anything better with a cigar than a little SRV, is there?!?! I don't like to be over-stimulated, so I tend to keep Maiden and AC/DC for a time when I can enjoy it more.

Overall, I like to enjoy the music, but the cigar comes first!

I suppose normally, jazz - I listen to Patricia Barber quite a bit.

Sometimes Tom Waits, sometimes early Santana, sometimes Elvis Costello, sometimes even the Surf Punks.

And when my wifes not around to be bothered by it, sometimes something like Pavarotti singing Puccini, or Battle singing Handel (she sends chills up my spine)

Primarily Wagner, I collect historical recordings. Yet, also love fusion jazz and a diverse spectrum of other modern music.

Lately It's been Caribbean music, Soft Jazz, and Spanish guitar music on the patio. I load up the player, hit shuffle, and 15 mins into the cigar I've reached paradise.

Lately, it's been Cal Tjader--lots of his 50s stuff, like Tjader Plays Mambo and Breeze from the East. Also enjoying Nicola Conte's contemporary take on South American sounds and rhythms.

When things are more contemplative, like sunrise smokes, I've been listening to Aidan Baker's more ambient guitar pieces like Scalpel. Beautiful stuff.

For me it's usually Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews, or just 'shuffle' on the ipod which goes from trad jaz, electronica, hippie crap, and everything in between.
