Music to burn sticks by.......

........moving the start of this discussion over from 'smoking in June' thread.

Gov't Mule - Warren Haynes is from outside of Hendersonville, NC and grew up sneaking in Buncombe County, NC (Asheville) clubs and such. When I moved up here straight out of vet school in '84 I was already familiar with Warren by reputation and from sessions he sat in with at Athens, GA clubs. And damned if one of the first Carolinians I met through my eventually to be wife wasn't a girl married to one of Warren's growing up crowd and a damn fine guitarist himself, Mark Allison. Nah you never heard of him. Another one of those excellent pickers who ended up with a yard of responsibility real quick and felt the need to have a "real" job to keep his younguns in shoes.

Salty Bastid you may already be familiar with "Grace Potter and the Nocturnals" since they opened for Mule on last fall and winters shows, but if you're not, do a YouTube search and you will drop your jaw. She's hotter than a 2buck pistol and sings like a nightingale...... sometimes.... and sometimes she just wails....... Enjoy.

Daaayem Chris!!! Thanks for the Beth Hart turnon. She's great! I love the cover of Mule's "Soul Shine" I sampled, and "One eyed Chicken" and ...... Yup, more Beth Hart coming to a CD player near me.

Yup, for me Marley and Burning Spear are classic long road music. Just don't get much better than "Exodus" for driving.... At the house reading and smoking it's PBS classical........

I've got 1 or 2 cd's of hers at home...I should make a few backups of those disks, just in case you know. You happen to know of any place away from home that I could safely store such backups?

I like all kinds of music...

But I like to listen to this one radio program later in the evening on a local station (black station if you can believe it). They call it the "Quiet Storm" and play nothing but laid back soul. I love to listen to it while smoking a stogie and tinkering with my bike.

When I have a smoke, I take my portable sirius radio out on the deck with me. Lately I have been listening to Jimmy Buffet live in concert. It is a great time to just sit for a couple of hours.

I have a 300 disc CD player, and just keep it on random. It's like having a radio station with your own music and no commercials. This was before the invention of the IPOD.

Rush
Gov't Mule
Allman Brothers Band
Gary Moore
Johnny Winter
Rusted Root
Widespread Panic
moe.
Black Crows
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Monty Montgomery
Derek Trucks
Blues Traveler
Joe Satriani

Lots of various blues greats; BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson.

If you are looking for an eclectic online radio station, try radioparadise.com The blending from one song to the next is phenomenal on this station and it introduces me to many types of music I would otherwise never listen to.

Salty B, I see Gary Moore on your list as well as some blues. With that in mind if you haven't listened to Otis Taylor's "Definition of a Circle" you need to. Taylor's kind of a trance blues, or story blues, singer with a really unique presentation. At any rate Moore provides some awfully athletic guitar licks for him.

Chris you have mail...... I think. You might actually have two mails, but not absolutely sure it went out at all.

The public station out of WSSU in Winston does a "Quiet Storm" thing I think on Friday (Saturday?) evening I've caught several times coming home from disc tournaments. For a blast of 'blue eyed soul' from the past, Eddie Hinton is great. Like I said, I grew up in Macon so Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, even the oldest Little Richard, before he became a caricature of himself, all have places in my musical heart.

........finally figured what the problem was. I wasn't filling in the subject line and when I hit submit and it prompted me to come up with a subject I had already logged off. My ex always thought I had a problem taking instructions. I always figured it was just her........
