Re: What are you listening to?

currently in the changer:

Pixies - Doolittle
Elliott Smith - s/t
Iggy Pop - New Values
The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club -BRMC
John Frusciante - Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt

Checkin this thread out has reminded me of a couple bands I love but haven't had on for too long. Especially The Descendents, Bad Brains, TSOL and Fugazi. - I think I'll go dig through my old albums. - I been meaning to pull out Squirrel Bait since I hear Slint is getting back together.

Funny - I got hooked on Fugazi first, and never really got too caught up in Minor Threat. You wouldn't be the first people to mock me for that. Personally, I think repeater, 13 songs, and inonthekilltaker are pretty much un(s)toppable.

i was the other way around... to be honest, i hadn't listened to Fugazi until i got to the show and realized i was standing next to Ian McKay (and was more surprised that he wasn't singing).
"sittin' in the waiting room.... "

------------

what am i listening to?
Schubert - erlkonig (if you've never heard this, you need to read the english lyrics along with the art song)
Chopin - polonaise in A-flat, Op. 53
Chopin - etude in C Minor, Op. 10, No. 12
Mendelssohn - concerto for violin and orchestra in E Minor, Op. 64

and some others...

Love that Chopin stuff. Of course I'm a Polack so I guess that clinches it.

On the rotation recently:

the Wrens, "The Meadowlands" -- fantastic. You indie rockers would probably like this. Give it a listen.

Elgar's 1st Symphony (strange but bits of Bernard Hermann's scores for Hitch. movies sound like this ... thinking in particular of N by NW).

"Workin With", "Steaming With", "Relaxing With" and "Cooking With" Miles Davis. I was really into Jazz in HS and college. Got away from it for a while. I popped these in the player and was blown away. I forgot how good this stuff really is. Hard to beat this series of albums!

Re: What are you listening to?

Now I'm on a full-on Hives kick. These guys remind me of why I started listening to music in the first place. A bunch a swedes making better US garage than enyon in the US for two decades (except maybe the Cavemanish boys - if any of my PDX brethren remember them.)

"You are Crime, Hives are Law!" classic.

Re: What are you listening to?

I'm listening to a mix disc of ill-gotten songs (wooohooo!). Most of them are by a really cool band called Interpol, a few Strokes tunes, and The Arcade Fire (who are quite good).
