Re: What are you listening to?

I had Violent Femmes Greatest playing in the car all day. Switched gears with some Ned's Atomic Dustbin.

Re: What are you listening to?

I love the Femmes. The Ned's Atomic Dustbin gave me a flashback too. Been a long time since I listened to that. I have one of their old albums, I'll have to go find it and check it out again. I think it was God Fodder? I think the song I remember from it was Kill Your Television. Now I'm going to have to go find it.

edit: Yep, found it. That was the one I was thinking of, but now I see it also has Grey Cell Green on it and I remember that one too.

Got to work security onstage for the Femmes back in college in 1985...what a great show!

That's the one and the same NAD. Pretty rocking tunes! Damn it makes me feel old sometimes though! Damn whipersnappers out there with their rap and pop metal crap! Ha!

Re: What are you listening to?

I really haven't looked at this thread in a while, but there are some good selections here. And some that I wouldn't necessarily play myself.. Phil Collins..shudder..

I've been listening to a lot of Anti-Nowhere League lately. Their songs rock and it's hard not to laugh at some of the lyrics. It's good fun, old dirty Oi punk, and I like it.

I also took Sonic Youth's Goo out for a spin today and it was a nice visit.

Re: What are you listening to?

Just picked up BLS's new album "Mafia" yesterday and it F'N rocks!!

I've seen BLS and Zakk Wylde in concert twice now and everytime they blow me away. Straight on, hardcore metal. Although I still think 1919 Eternal is their best album.

The thing that sucks is they are playing in Phoenix tomorrow and I won't be able to make it to the show, tickets are only 25 bucks!! I'm disappointed but I'll catch 'em on the next pass.

If you haven't yet, go pick up their new album.

Re: What are you listening to?

Some of 'em are old school punk bands, seems we have a lot of punks around here

Most of the ones just mentioned are metal/punk/hardcore bands. If you're into that stuff you should check 'em out, most of them are classics. However I must say again how rockin' the new Black Label Society CD is.

Also for a good education in punk music read back through this thread and there are mentions of some classic bands to start your musical education.

Re: What are you listening to?

I have listened to some Black Label Society but don't own any albums. They do rock and this reminds me that I really should go pick some of their stuff up. I first heard of them because Rob Zombie was working with Zakk Wylde and he was really heaping the praises on them.

Re: What are you listening to?

Yeah, Zobie also directed their video for "Stillborn" the one with Ozzy singing on the chorus.

The 2 times I saw BLS in concert was at Ozzfest, they were one of the main stage bands.

i had an old sonic youth record a loooong time ago, i think it was "confusion is sex", where they do their own rendition of "now i wanna be your dog".

i use to consider them more of an acid punk band, a little more "acid" than the "butthole surfers" who i never liked, and found it comical when they had a "hit" song in the 90s.

Re: What are you listening to?

Yeah, the 90's were good to Sonic Youth. Suddenly they were on MTV and everybody was name checking them as an influence.

I don't like all of the Butthole Surfers stuff because they can be kinda bizarre. However Electric Larryland is a really good album and I think it's their most consistent one. I used to get a kick out of how some record bin labels would spell their name: "B***H*** Surfers".
