Re: What are you listening to?

I went to see Motley Crue last night in Chicago. Didn't expect them to be on their game after seeing some of their early reunited performances on TV, but they rocked the house for 2 1/2 hours, good show! Tommy Lee spent 10 minutes with a handheld cam which displayed on the big screen, and it turned into "Girls Gone Wild". Tommy ended the session by asking "Who's your Boy"?

Slowing it down next month when the wife and I are taking our parents to see Elton John.

Re: What are you listening to?

While driving my 2+hr trip home from a meeting today; I had to smoke one of Pinoyman's custom rolled robustos. To make it a true island experience, I was crankin' up my favorite island record. Bob Marley - EXODUS.

Listening to the Jam This is the Modern World right now. In a bit I'll have to change it up to some Irish folk music to go with a pint or three.

King Crimson is often identified as the founders of "progressive rock," in that their album "In the Court of the Crimson King" circa 1969 introduced elements of free jazz, dissonance, varied and complex time signatures into fairly "mainstream" music. They have gone through many personnel changes through their 35+ year history, but still play music that sharply divides listeners into the love-hate camps.
Robert Fripp is the founder and sole constant member of 'Crim. He has done many sessions as a guest guitarist, teaches seminars in "Guitar Craft", and strongly advocates composer's rights in music biz dealings. His Soundscapes are "a lot of noise from one guitar"- heavy sustain, long electronic delay lines, and processing tones through guitar synth. Strangely moving, sometimes heartbreaking stuff.
Bill Nelson- founder of the "post-glam" Be-Bop Deluxe circa 1974. One of the "axe slingers" of that era, with a wide range of stylistic abilities. Copious solo work- probably 40 or more releases since the early 80's covering everything from piano-based ambient to jungle to found sounds to rockers. Records everything at home!
LTE- a studio jam band with two releases. A lot of "how fast can we play?" stuff, and the amazing Tony Levin on basses.
Howlin' Wolf- powerful electric blues. Manic piano behind some later recordings. Scared the crap out of me when I first heard it as a kid.....
Jeff Beck- Guitar god from the late 60's and 70's, still doing amazing, tasty stuff today. His solo career began to pick up steam with "Wired" ca. 1975, but the fusion jazz character of that one might not be everyone's best intro.
JPJ- bassist for Led Zeppelin. Not the same kinda stuff. "Leafy Meadows" on "Thunderthief" will prove that guys in their late 50's can still balance dexterity and power. (Fripp solo on the track is stellar)

Enjoy!

For the pope you sure do listen to out there stuff, man I love King Crimson,I used to play their stuff at parties and the folks in attendance looked at me like I was fargin nuts.

Well I got an email saying that it shipped. I'm on their once a week plan so theoretically I don't spend as much money. Did you get yours?

And if I was at a party and you played King Crimson, I'd look at you like you were nuts too.

Re: What are you listening to?

Well I went to an AudioSlave Concert last Friday so I'm jammin' to their album. And I must add that they freakin' rock in concert. They played their new stuff, some older soundgarden stuff, and some Rage Against the Machine stuff. I must say that Chris Cornell does a pretty good job covering Rage songs.

Anyway,
I'm currently listening to Static X's - Wisconsin Death Trip album
