Looking for opinions.

Sorry for the sufficiently ambiguous title but I'm cogitating here. . . I just found this site and am very intrigued. I enjoy a good smoke but am fairly low on the cigar education curve. Been smoking them for maybe 10 years off and on and I'm considering my 'next life'.

I'm a blues afficionado, play guitar, some harmonica and manage to do my version of vocals. I'm thinking of developing a cigar shop with a blues (downhome and dirty...think low tech) kind of a focus. I"ve got old music posters, oddball percussion instruments, old guitars on the walls, blues music playing in the background, things like that.

I'm still educating myself (found some excellent threads here!) on what y'all feel makes a great shop and I tend to agree with the majority. Good selection, humidor, accessories and SMOKING AREA. Which might also be a jam area. But nothing electric.

Waddya think? Sound like it might work? It's gonna take a while to flesh out but that's my strategic level of idea.

Thanks for listenin.

Re: Looking for opinions.

Not a bad idea for a shop. I would say make sure the area you're planning to set up is one that supports both blues and cigars. You may draw one group, but not the other, or repel both. If you lived in like Austin, known for live music, it would be a pretty big hit, IMHO.

Grinch OUT!!!

Welcome to CS. I like your idea very much, but if you are selling cigars, don't leave out live jazz music.

Re: Looking for opinions.

Welcome to Club Stogie Ron!

Your idea is great. A good selection of smokes and paraphernalia is always good. Some of the best smokers lounges in shops I have visited have some nice features. Comfortable sitting areas, areas for viewing TV/Sports, gaming tables for hold-em tourneys, good music both piped in and live, good selection of reading material (cigar, sports and music mags/books). The trick is making do with small spaces. For example, nice but folding gaming tables lets you put them away. One other feature I really like are humidified lockers people rent so they can leave a stash there in a cigar-healthy environment. The ones I have seen are on the outside of a perforated wall of the walk-in such that they are kept at the same temp and Rh. If they leave some there, this guarantees people come back in to relax.

Good luck with the venture!

Yea, I venture that direction on occasion but not too far outside. Actually the standing joke is. . . band starts a tune. . . someone (me?? ) is in the wrong key. . . Hey, it's jazz!

Thanks for all the great ideas!

I've the opportunity to relocate sometime in the next several months.

Hey I see something about BEER in your sig. . . One favorite thing to do is smoke with a 'homebrew'. Anyone brew their own beer here???

I've got a "Blue Heron IPA" fermenting right now. It'll be good and hoppy here soon.
