The New Guy

Hello guys.
My name is Bryan.
I live in Minnesota.
I have not had much experience with cigars, and have no collection, but I am looking forward to building one up. It is a little bit hard when you are living at home and your parents don't support the hobby.
I am also interested in pipes, and I am thinking about driving out and buying my first pipe as a late Christmas present to myself.
I have a lot of questions now, but I hope to someday develop into one of the people answering them.

I have been researching cigars and pipes vigorously for the past month, and I am learning as much about them as I can.

I have not actually bought any cigars for myself yet, I have just tried others.

I am thinking about picking up a Romeo y Julieta (Churchhill en Tubo), 5 Vegas Gold, or a Montecristo White for New Years. Do any of those sound good?

Just a side note, the no posting rule for 24 hours pretty much killed me, but I think it is a good idea. I got really excited about asking questions and posting, but I couldn't do it.
Drove me up the wall.

Edit: The one thing I can not figure out for the life of me. Ring Gauge (in your profile). From what I can determine it has to do with post quality, but I can not find information about it anywhere.

"Ring gauge is something that means many different things to many different gorillas. It is given out for whatever reason the giver chooses. Some give it for things you do that they consider worthwhile to the community, others for a humorous or interesting post. Sometimes it is given out of friendship, or for bombs. Ring gauge can be given for virtually anything at all."
Found it, is there a minimum requirement for giving somebody ring gauge? How do I do it?
Sorry, I promise to get the hang of this forum soon.

Welcome to the Jungle Bryan!

I think the 5Vegas Gold would make a very nice New Year's smoke for you.

Thank you both very much, I will see if I can pick up one of those 5 Vegas Golds, shouldn't be a problem. Just might have to make a drive into town.

Probably after the Christmas rush eh?

Welcome to Club Stogie, Bryan

There is a wealth of information in the various stickies. Be sure to read through them all. Also, use the Search function for more specific questions.
If your search word is less than 3-4 characters use " " to surround your question. Search posts rather than threads to get specific answers.
As a new collector, dont go rushing out and buying a humidor. A medium sized tupperware or rubbermaid container with a humipak(from your B&M) will do just fine.

Any of the three smokes you listed will give you a good starter smoke that is both mild and smooth. Enjoy the ride!

Welcome to the jungle

As others have said any of those three smokes will be fine, or maybe consider picking up a couple of them. One never seams to be enough.

Re: The New Guy

First, Welcome to CS!!!

As for your New Years cigar, the 5 Vegas Gold may be tough to find at a B&M (that's short for "Brick and Mortor" = actual store, not on line vendor)...unless you were considering ordering online of course. I think you'd be happy with any of the smokes you listed.

Read the stickies, read alot, then read some more and you'll be good to go.

Merry Christmas!!!

Thank you very much.
I will not have time to order online before New Years, so I may have to look for some other ones then.

I have been reading as much as I can.

Re: The New Guy

The 5 Vegas Gold or the Montecristo would both be good smokes for you. You might also want to consider the Rocky Patel Connecticut. I prefer it to the 5 Vegas Gold and you can buy one in a B&M. 5 Vegas is an online only brand available exclusively through Cigars International, Cigar.com, and Cigarbid.com.

Welcome to the jungle!
