May I comment?
Good Morning,
I wanted to pass on a few thoughts from the FNG (I just got through reading the acornym sticky ). Please take my comments as meant, I'm no english major and not too PC a person to begin with. My comment are not meant to stir anything up, just to pass on some first impressions. Sometimes long time members of a forum get real comfortable to the house and lose sight of what the new peeps see and experience. Some of my other hangouts usually encourage the new folk to speak out. 1. I'm no novice to forums, been reading them and participating since about 1984. This is one of the best forums I have ever seen for a specific topic. I have been to good and bad forums and ya'll have put together an outstanding place here. This style forum is a bit new to me (more used to Delphi and a few others). Still trying to figure out some of the functions. 2. The knowledge level and wealth makes this about a one place stop to shop. My thanks to the gurus of this and any forum for the time and energy they expend. Maybe soon I'll have a few nuggets of info I can pass on. 3. Stickeys - While in general, the stickys are excellant, here they seem to have lost the value of a sticky. First there is an abundance of them and most seem to run 5 pages of 10 posts or more. I am a bit used to each stickey being more a consise answer to a answer to a much repeated question or thought. In general IMO they should not be discussions. 4. One comment I hear quite often on various forums is "use the search function". Searches can be excellant, fast and possibly get you the info you want in a timely manner. Downside to a reply "Why don't you use the search function" is it comes off cold, depending on the person writing - a bit superior, and the results only provide old information. You lose the benifit of newer people's opinions and or newer experiences of the topic by not asking the public question. We have this come up quite often on the motorcycle forums and others I belong to. 5. Cigars for Troops - I actually read over 90% of the posts (I think it was close to 65 pages) in that thread. As a retired navy guy, my thanks and appreciation to all who have contrbuted and supported that process. One of my riding Brothers was in the sandpit this past year and I believe he and his cigar group may have received cigars from this forum based on his pics and comments. I was able to send him some, but was afraid of the time to travel and possible damage to them, so he did not get as many as I would like to have shipped. I have seen some excellant shipping tips floating around here, so future boxes should not be a problem. I am working on a few $$$ donations right now to either forward to the gurus here or will send some boxes for shipment overseas (not sure which would be prefered). 6. The forum topic layout is outstanding - easy to navigate, find topics, and get to where you want to be. Hopefully no one has been offended by my comments. Moderators, if so, please let me know and feel free to kill the thread. I do try to participate whereever I happen to be. This is a well run forum and the people here seem to be top notch. I appreciate the warm welcomes that have been extended to me. I live in the Hampton/NN area of VA. If anyone would like to meet for a smoke and a beverage of choice, please feel free to contact me.

Welcome!! I don't think your comments will offend anyone. Most FOG's here know constructive criticism when they see it.

Re: May I comment?
Welcome Volt, great comments! I'm a relatively FNG myself, and this is the first experience I've had with a discussion website. If someone does say "do a search", it should always be followed with, "here are some of my favorite stickies/threads/posts on that subject" and, " if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me/start a thread/write a post". After all, it is a discussion forum, not a "Cigar Wikipedia"!
BTW: What is your history/experience with cigars/pipes? Any favorites?

Re: May I comment?
Welcome!
I agree with #4, sometimes the search does not always yield exactly what one may be trying to answer, and new input is always helpful.

Welcome to the jungle. Thanks for the time and inputs. I think you'll really enjoy this board.
You almost lost me though when you said you were in the Navy! But when you said you are from Virginia I let it slide!!! Cheers, BillyBarue
