Thumbs up Re: Stogie Tracker

[SIZE=2]Hello LT,

Just downloaded the Stogie Tracker, and it looks very promising. I had been trying to develop a similar spreadsheet setup. I am working now to configure it to my particular humidor setups etc.

My thought when attempting to create my own sheet, was to connect the database/table of cigars from an on-line site, such as CigarCyclopedia which would automatically pull the data already entered there and allow the addition or editing of that data locally. Additionally, I was searching for a means to be able to link to images via the same type approach. I did create a dynamic set of spreadsheets that auto refresh from the on-line data, the only thing left to do was "connect" them to the fields in my sheets.

Unfortunately, my EXCEL skills (virtually none) were not up to the task. I'm curious have you given this approach any consideration? I'd be glad to forward you the sheets I have if you think you'd be interested.

So thanks again... nicely done!

Re: Stogie Tracker

Whew, you sound way smarter than me! you have to remember to use small words when asking me a question, I am only an Infantry guy...

I have no clue how to pull certian things off of the web using access or excel. I am pretty good with excel and i know how to link cells and all that good stuff as you can probably tell by the stogie tracker.

All that said i am not sure i understand your question fully. I would be more than happy to try to figure anything out you want to do... but i am not sure what exactly you are trying to do. If i understand correctly you are able to get the info off the internet and have excel auto-update them, but you are unable to link the info to the proper cells within excel? as long as you are trying to get me to figure something out in Excel i can probably do it, but if you are trying to get me to use a data base, you are barking up the wrong tree...

I would like to see what you got though, let me know.

I found that accessing the Cyclopedia pricing report then right clicking and selecting export to excel I get all the data imported into excel, ready for my searches,, sorts or look-ups. Did you want a more defined download? Also your posts suggest the possibility of another site that gathers extensive pricing information. Is there such a beast, cause I can never get too much comparison shopping.

Perhaps there is - There is a fairly large cigar database here:
[SIZE=4]http://www.cigargroup.com/resource.htm
Scroll about 2/3's of the way down the page - you can pull a delimited file from the link.
Let me know how you make out...

Re: Stogie Tracker

I'd seen that B4 and it does have value, but what I was referencing was the Comparison Shopper at Cigar Cyclopedia where they periodically do a price listing for all the major brands (some minors too!) and pricing at 6 top internet retailers. It is extensive enough to include sampler and 5-packs.

I can access and import Ext. Data to Excel, but since the output is generated in php and I can't find a way to update except to creat a whole new list.

Oh, well 10 minutes using it is better then the manual searching that took an hour......

Thanks!!

Re: Stogie Tracker

Just a quick note to say thanks for the spreadsheet LT, I've customised mine a bit but would never have gotten around to knocking something up without your initial sheet to use as a base

Does anyone have a copy of LT's spreadsheet that they could email me? It appears that the FTP link is down. Thanks.
