Re: The Official "I'm sorry for trolling" essay thread
Hi, my name is Basil (officially Greg). I'm a student at Florida State University. Though I am not really considered a "New Gorilla", I am - as a poor college student - addicted to trolling around various places trying to get free things.
Many of you may not know me, which may lead some of you to believe I am a "New Gorilla". I found this site around March last year, and I still lurk around quite a bit. Last summer, I entered quite a few contests not only to increase my post count, but also in attept to try and score some free cigars. That was when I was at the top of the slippery "cigar addiction" slope. Since last summer my post count per day has dropped dramatically (although my descent down that slippery slope hasn't slowed haha), and I'm glad to say that for a while I was completely troll-free. Of course I would always drop by in the non-cigar chat and do the "word association thread" and other things like that, but I would never ask people (subtly or blatantly) for free stuff. I just had too much on my hands juggling college and my job. Now summer is rolling around again, and unfortunately, with all this free time due to school being out for summer, I can feel my trolling behaviors start to seep out from my past. Though I haven't yet (thankfully), I have started to feel the urge to open up every thread in the Habanos section screaming "CUBANS PLZ! I NEED CUBANS! AHHH!" and other such nonsense, due to the fact that I really haven't ever had a real cuban. Instead I found this thread. I guess it was originally posted a little after my trolling binge of last summer, right before school started in the Fall. When I look back on it, I feel nothing but shame and disgust at myself, entering contest after contest (sometimes not even knowing what the prize was) and anything offering free smokes to little grubs like myself. I have since changed my ways, finding a nice tobbaconist in town, and even occasionally buying stuff from him! I realize now that dropping hints for free smokes, entering endless contests, and the like really take away from the sense of community here at club stogie. It degenerates from being a big happy family to a group of dogs just scratching at the table hoping to get some nice juicy bacon from their owners. People shouldn't just hang out here for free smokes (like I once did). In doing that, one really misses out on the amazing experience you can have here at Club Stogie. Though I don't post much, I can sift through pages just learning everything about cigars - and not really even scratching the surface! You don't get that experience by just hanging out trying to bum free stuff and simply looking for the next opportunity to troll. Anyway, I'm glad you all took some time out of your busy lives to read this humble little essay from a poor college student. Hopefully it will delay my slip back into trolling for a little while. If this discussion is only open to "New Gorillas" I thank you for reading this anyway. It feels good to admit to trolling in the past. -Basil

Since no one called you out, I guess you just needed to get this confession off you chest? Ok, say 25 Hail Mary's and smoke 5 Cremosa Cubanas back to back. Only then may you be forgiven my son. ![]()
