My 1991 Honda civic has 257K miles and is running strong, 40 mpg on the highway, as zippy as ever, no oil additions between 3000 mi changes, original clutch. I'll drive it 1200-1300 miles on a weekend with no hesitation whatsoever, cruising at 85 on the freeway. Never left me stranded. If I bought any domestic vehicle at the same time it would have been landfill long ago.

Luckily this is a cigar board or I'd tell you what I really think about domestic cars. Welcome.
Well I guess that was a welcome. Never replaced those timming belts on that Honda? I bought a 91 Honda for my son used of course and it lasted to the ripe old age of 120000 before the transmission shot craps. And I guess that Nissan never rusted out. I came to this board to be welcomed and I get crap for my living. I think I might have made a mistake

No siree Paul, you're more than welcome here. You might have missed the "Welcome" at the end of my post. I'll repeat it here, welcome to CS, come in, sit back, and enjoy the company.

My comments were in response to the "I will only sell domestics", which I thought was kinda silly. All of the big 3 US car makers are in partnership with or owned by foreigners. Many parts are made in Mexico, Canada or elsewhere. I know of no car of any manufacturer that is 100% designed and made in the USA. So when I see that comment, it smacks to me of some sort of elitism that ended around 1980 in the US car market when the Japanese started selling their third generation vehicles and blew the Americans out of the water for reliability. Now many "Japanese" cars are made in the US by American workers. Imported? yea ... imported parts.

I replace the timimg belt and water pump in my Honda each 90K; I do all routine maintenance. If it makes you feel better, my favorite car of all time was my 1973 Plymouth Satellite 318. You could sleep 2 in that sucker without cramping, it was reliable as anything back then and it drove well. I could climb into the engine compartment there was so much room and everything was well designed. The 318 was a wonderful engine. I miss that car (although the 12 mpg would be a killer today).

Re: Oh boy another newbie

Always thought that the Chevy Corvair and Chevy Monza are two different autos. Have actually driven a friends Monza years ago. He used to toy with that thing and we would refer to it as our "Monzerati".
Btw, welcome and enjoy the forums.

Welcome to CS! I had a covair (about the same year 62-64 I don't remember) when I was in high school loved that car. Fill the oil and check the gas.
