Welcome to Club Stogie!

There are a lot of us here that smoke in our garages in the winter time.

I use a multi-fuel jet heater hooked up to a Electric base board line-voltage thermostat to keep the garage at a toasty 65° F in the winter months. It's good enough to have a cigar.

My long term fix is to move to Florida in a few years. I'm sick of winter.

Remember to vote against the legislators that take away your rights, and note which side of the aisle they're on. Next time, vote against the "law givers" that take your freedoms away. State and Federal legislatures have become nothing more than restriction factories. Fuc# 'em. Vote 'em out.

These idjits are supposed to be guardians of our rights, not restrictors of them. The highest praise I could offer any Legislemming or Congresscritter is that they didn't promulgate any new legislation.

Welcome to CS...and stop being such a wuss, -20 isn't that cold I would think the best bet would be to track down and check out some B&Ms in the area, they gotta let you smoke in there. I am hoping to be up there in late Jan/early Feb (I am insane, I know) to watch the Beargrease and go to the St. Paul Winter Carnival...they are conveniently the same week. Hopefully if I make it up there, we could meet up and herf...along with any other MN CS folks. Enjoy the jungle

I like having lots of stuff to do while working on cars

Not sure how much to run a line to a detached garage....does fire code allow a wood burner? you can get one of those for 100.00 at menards. depending how big of a garage you have you wouldnt even need to insulate.
Your garage sounds great!
I've thought of a wood burner. My garage actually has a concrete chimney, so a previous owner must have had one. I don't know what my insurance company would think of me putting a wood burner in. I suspect they'd not be too happy with it. Also, I don't know what fire code is. I live well withing city limits, so they can be pretty tough sometimes. But I've got a fireplace in my house and half my neighbors have regular fires in their backyards in those portable pits they sell at Menards!
There's always the nipco program. I just don't like the smell and I fear they burn up all the oxygen.
My other problem is space. It's pretty tight with our car and van in there.
Thanks for helping me along this line of thinking. I'll let you know what comes out of it.
You don't happen to know of an electric unit that would be effective running off a 15 amp circuit? I can't believe I'd get enough heat out of it for those below zero days, even with insulating.
Take care.

You're not insane. Hell...I live here! Who's crazy?
Winter Carnival is a wonderful event. I've not attended the Beargrease, but I hear it's a great time, especially for dog lovers.
If you do make it up here, let me know ahead of time. I'd love to herf with you and other Minnesota CS'ers.

Re: New Looking for Herf

Welcome to the Jungle.

You could install a stand alone gas heater, run your tubing outside to a rented 100lb bottle? Do you remember the type of gas heaters they had back in the 40's and 50's to heat the house with, that's what I'm talking about. They work great, if your garage is insulated.

ya the heater is also handy for washing cars in the winter without them freezing up on me. wisconsin salt on the roads has to be the worst

I'd do a mini herf out of my house sometime if needed. We have a few members around wisconsin. I'm not sure If I would be centrally located enough tho.....
