Hello from sunny Las Vegas
I'm Bob from Las Vegas. I have been smoking premium cigars off and on for a while now, but just within the past year I have gotten into it as a fairly serious hobby. I like a mild-to-medium bodied smoke, but I have tried and liked some brands considered full flavored. In trying to find new favorites I have bought several samplers and I have added some new brands to my "buy" list. My original premium cigar was the Macanudo Portofino, primarily because it was the only non-bulk brand the hotel I stayed in when I was a tourist here sold in the gift shop. Since then I have experienced many fine smokes - including my first Cuban on a trip to Mexico a couple of years ago. That smoke - a Cohiba - was so good I could not wait for the embargo to end. Since then, I have found many comparable smokes that I can legally buy in the US. My favorite brands (at least so far), in no particular order, are Graycliff, Rocky Patel, Carlos Torano, La Aurora, La Gloria Cubana and Oliva. When I left my last job for a promotion, a fellow cigar aficionado gifted me with a Flor de Oliva that measures about an inch across at the tip and is almost as long as my humidor is wide. I'm still trying to figure out when I might have time to smoke the thing.
I really struggled with my first humidor, until I bought a bead pack that should have been far too big for it. In this very dry climate it is difficult to maintain humidity, but mine now stays around 65-67%. I'm a transplanted Floridian living in the land of sunshine (about 300 sunny days a year, although the last couple haven't been among them). The worst thing about the weather here isn't the heat - it's the wind. It tends to stir up a lot of dust, because there is very little grass here to hold down the sand. I'm glad to find this place. I am on another cigar blog that is pretty much dead. That doesn't seem to be a problem here. Last edited by orca99usa; 05-25-2008 at 10:12 PM.. |
