Newbie to cigars and the community
Hi all, I just recently gained interest in cigars after a recent trip where a buddy offered me a Gurkha and I loved it. The rich flavor and great aftertaste plus relaxation got me hooked and i've been trying to read as much as I can. Anyways, I hope to meet you guys and get some great tips. I am looking into getting a sampler of some sort and wanted to run these buy you to see if they are decent:
http://www.cigarsinternational.com/p...3&cat=6&page=1 http://www.thompsoncigar.com/default...earch&uid=1820 http://www.thompsoncigar.com/default...earch&uid=1979 does anyone know if those Thompson samplers come with a humidor? I heard bad things about thompson from other forums though.. any help would be great, thanks alot |

Life is good, another primate joining the membership of fellow cigar enthusiast. Welcome to the jungle!!
![]() Not a fan of Thompson, does seem the package CI offer is an okay deal, and as already noted, there are some good deals if you shop around, and a word of caution regarding the infamous 'slippery slope'. Just a suggestion, may want to browse the 'newbie pif' thread, just finished third go-around and thoroughly enjoyed it, came across number of cigars may have never tried. Again, welcome. http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...68003&page=181

You won't find too many fans of Thompson's around here either. I did start off with them, but moved on to others, that's when they start to call you even!
Here's some other links in the forum you may want to check out, plus, check out the N00bie sampler trade! http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=29252 (big list of cigars) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=158080 (acronym list) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=7550 (vendor list) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10414 (miscellaneous info) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=8864 (more info) http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=126857 (NST)

Welcome to the jungle.
If you want a good selection of Gurkhas, Chippewastud79 has some Gurks for a good price here: http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthread.php?t=159873

Re: Newbie to cigars and the community
I would also stay away from Thompson. Also beware of big combo deals. You can get some good smokes but also a lot of garbage. Just give your self some time to try some different smokes before buying a lot of stuff on line.

Re: Newbie to cigars and the community
This post reminded me, if you can, find a local B&M and just start picking up a bunch of singles. I would even get 2 of each, that way you'll have a chance to try something twice to make sure you enjoy it before going for a box or something. Also note that your tastes will change as you get more into it. Even after a month or a couple weeks you may find you like something completely different that you did on that first day. If you don't have a B&M (you gonna hate me for this one), check out the singles/fiver sections at cigarbid.com
