New to the Slippery Slope

Hi All,

Just joined the group yesterday.

I started cigars only on special occasions about three years ago. Since I started working and making enough to overcome the Canadian Tobacco Tax, I've been more regular and even just purchased a desktop humidor.

Thanks to the amazing information on this site, I've been able to calibrate the permanent hygrometer on the face of the humidor.

Currently in the box are:

Punch Margarita
CAO Gold Maduro Torpedo
Macanudo Hyde Park
Fuente Especial
Davidoff Millennium Robusto
Cuesta Rey Small Belicoso
Diplomaticos No.2

That'll fill up fast. Better go ahead and get yourself a cooler too

The slope is always demanding more grist for the mill. Enjoy the slide and try not to think about the money.

You and me both. I've gone from about 25 cigars on hand to about 200 in the course of a month.

Not that that's a bad thing.

I doubt it will need a cooler. I'm training for sport at the moment and have some lofty ambition. So I'm limiting myself to one stick every 8 weeks.

Quick Q regarding the salt test, what consistency should the salt be? There should be no excess water in the cap, right?

I'll likely 'fill' it after Christmas. My boss is going to Cuba with his lady and able to bring 4 x 25 boxes. I'll take 3 or 4 from each bunch and get some non-habano from a tinder box when I visit family in Buffalo.

The tobacco tax here kills us.:

Cigar CAD USD

Davidoff Millennium 50 18
Macanudo Hyde Park 16 5
CAO Italia 17 5

Correct. No excess water. The salt should be damp.

Cool. The hygro finished at 66%. Meaning I have to add 9 to whatever it reads.

I used this hygro (+9) to calibrate the immovable one on the humidor. The one on it was off by only 3%.
