Noob from Indy
Hi all,
Been lurking a couple of weeks and finally joined. Thought I would post a hello. Seems like a lot of good info and people on here. Been a menthol cigarette smoker for many years, but my son-in-law got me interested in cigars just recently. Been trying some cheaper cigars because I don't think for right now my palette is advanced enough to really appreciate what more expensive cigars have to offer. Hopefully I'll be able to distinguish all the different tastes eventually (ie, earthy, nutty, spice, etc.) maybe all that menthol has taken a toll on my tastebuds. I do have a question. I recently purchased a 20 pack of Gran Habanos 3 Siglos Fumas. Every review I read said they were a decent stick. So I thought I would give them a try since they were pretty cheap. The taste, draw, amount of smoke seemed to be pretty good, but the burn has been terrible. I've actually only had a couple, and my son-in-law has had one, but all so far all have been very extremely uneven on the burn. One side burns ahead of the other by about an inch! From what i've read these were either rolled by a 5 year old, or they are too wet. I'm now dry boxing a couple to see if that makes a difference. Did I just get a bad batch or is this normal for this line? No other cigar I've tried has done this, so I don't think it has to do with the way I'm lighting them. Any ideas?

Re: Noob from Indy
Hi and welcome.
What is the humidity where you're storing the sticks? My first thought is humidity is the problem, try storing them at 65% for a while and I bet they burn good from that point. ![]() |

Re: Noob from Indy
Wow that was a fast reply!
Thanks, Darrell. Right now, I am going the tupperidor way until I find the right humidor I want. I am using the xigar beads and it seems to be holding between 65 an 70 rh. I have other sticks that have been in there longer and they don't have the burn problem that the GH fumas are having. Or I also would suspect the rh as a problem. The GH fuma sticks are really new from CI, I don't know how they store their cheaper sticks. I thought I would try a couple "off the truck" and let some age, then see if I could tell a difference. But this burn problem has me disappointed so far with the GH fumas. The bands are really fancy looking though! lol

Welcome to Club Stogie!
As mentioned, the cigars may still be a bit moist. Give them a chance to rest at around 65% and the burn issue should correct itself, IMO |

![]() Make sure you click on my sig line to see if you are eligible for the noob contest. As far as the cigars with the burn problem, just let them rest a couple of weeks at about 65% humidity and you should see an improvement in the burn. Most companies ship "wet" so the cigars don't get "dry" during their travels.

Re: Noob from Indy
Thanks for the replies and the welcoming. I'll let them rest a couple of weeks and then see how they do.

Re: Noob from Indy
Welcome from a fellow hoosier.
I bought some of these 3 siglos fumas and found that most of them had a burn problem. I have to attribute it to rather poor construction. If you are looking for an inexpensive, well made cigar, try the La Vieja Habana series from Drew Estate. I have a friend that smokes those daily and they never let him down. Later this year I'll be hosting a get together in South Bend for bowling, food, and of course cigars. Watch the boards, hope to see you there.

Re: Noob from Indy
I've had the 3 siglos long fillers but not the sandwich filler ones. I know the short filler burns quicker but it still should be somewhat even. If they are left at the right rh they should eventually be fine. Unless you are cutting the cigar uneven.

Re: Noob from Indy
Update: After a couple of weeks in my humidor, I am glad to report that the cigars now burn much more evenly. Not perfect, but acceptable given the price (about $1.35 ea) The ugliest one (wrapper was darkly streaked) has been my favorite so far. Nice peppery flavor. Starting to realize that I like the cigars that put a feeling of black pepper on my tongue. Had a Santa Damiana that was equally peppery and enjoyed it also. Some of the better looking GH 3 Siglos fumas haven't been quite as peppery, but for the price still not a bad smoke.
