Ba-Da-Bing from Michigan

Just joined here a few days ago and am looking forward to you seasoned vets imparting your knowledge on me. I've smoked cigars on and off for a few years, mostly just while playing golf, so I decided to finally man up and get a humidor rather than just picking up a stick at my local shop on the way to golf.

My go-to right now is a Rocky Patel Vintage 1992, but probably mostly because I know I like it and didn't want to blow money on something else I wasn't sure about. So here is what I bought to get started:

100 Cigar "The Alhambra" Humidor:

Boutique 8-Cigar Sampler from CI:
1 - Graycliff 1666 Pirate (torpedo) (6" x 52)
1 - Padilla Obsidian Belicoso (6" x 54)
1 - Cuba Libre Unico (torpedo) (6.25" x 54)
1 - CAO Ltd. Black Gothic (torpedo) (6" x 52)
1 - El Mejor Emerald Torpedo (6.5" x 54)
1 - 5 Vegas Classic Torpedo (6" x 54)
1 - 5 Vegas Gold Series Torpedo (6" x 54)
1 - Rocky Patel Connecticut Torpedo (6.5" x 50)

Also grabbed 2 5-packs of these Sol Cubano Artisans for $25 per pack since they seemed like a ridiculous deal:

Also hooked myself up with a digital hygrometer and some Humi-Care to make things simple.

FYI, I'm not Italian, despite the thread title!

Welcome to CS - Looks like your headed in the right direction (down the slope) Make sure you season the Humidor before using it. If you don't the new cedar will pull all the humidity from the cigars and dry them out.

Have fun in the jungle..

Hey Andy - Not to threadjack but I just received some cedar shelves/drawers for the Vino and I've got Shilala beads already....do I still need to season the shelves? I've noticed that my humidity is at a measly 43% after throwing the shelves in....no good, for sure.

Re: Ba-Da-Bing from Michigan

I would wipe them down with Distilled water and let it dry for a day. Probibly would work best in a humidified environment. Until they dry out the humidity will spike for sure. After that you should be good to go.

For sure. Is there any advantage of just wiping it down with distilled water versus using a 50/50 propylene glycol solution?

Re: Ba-Da-Bing from Michigan

I don't think I would want to get the solution on the cedar it'self. I would use distilled water for that. for the humidifier solution is good. Better yet Beads!!

Believe me, I know - I'm one of those people who buys things (like video games and now cigars) knowing I don't have nearly the time to get around to them as often as I want.

Re: Ba-Da-Bing from Michigan

Quick update: Everything arrived last night and the seasoning is under way. I ran the salt test overnight and my digital showed 73% and the analog like 65% - so I did the adjustments and put it back in the ziploc - hopefully both read 75% when I get home.
