Help, I have slipped, and I can't get up!
Yes I have slipped down the slope,....but I am not complaining....My wife; well that is a different story.
Greetings from the Twin Ports of Duluth, MN & Superior, WI. I live on the good side in Superior ![]() I have been lurking around here for a few months and finally registered up so I could post. First of all I would like to thank all of the Big Gorillas who post so often for the wealth of knowledge I have picked up. I have learned more in the past few weeks than in my 15 years of occasionally puffing away on stogies, and 5 years of puffing quite frequently. As it is approaching winter and starting to get a bit too cold up here in the Northland to smoke outside, I asked my wife if she would mind if I built a small cigar smoking room in our finished basement. I learned do whatever the (H) you want does not actually mean quite that. Last night while my wife was doing some laundry I was measuring a nice location where I thought a smoking lounge would work well. She then told me she had another idea. As we have a four bedroom house and are only using two of them (one for my wife and I, and one for our two year old son), she suggested that I could use the small back bedroom (her office) as my "Den" as long as I used a window fan to suck out the smoke. And she would use the third bedroom as her office/gym. I am going away this weekend and she told me when I return the room would be clean out and I could make my "Den" when I return.....I can only hope. Especially as I measured the size of the window and bought a nice window fan that fits perfectly. I bought it from Target just so I could get a look at the Vino Vault....yep they had one there. I am sure as soon as I get my room set up as there will be a need for one......Oh this slope gets more and more slippery with every step! I do have a few questions I hope some of you might be able to shed some light on for me: I have three digital hygrometers that all are -1 or +1 apart from each other. I have read that I do not need to calibrate these digital ones (nor do I now how to do so). I am wondering if I can calibrate my two other non digital to equal my digital ones without having to do the salt test? Also, could someone point me to the thread link where I saw a picture of a gentleman's collection. It was a couple of pictures of two full sized refrigerators and perhaps a small one too all fully stocked with premium stogies. I want to show my wife these pictures. I recall one guy mentioning on that thread he showed his wife and told her this is the norm. I am not sure my will buy that, but it is worth a shot. Finally, I have read many posts from folks who live in very warm climates worrying about too high of temps and beetles. As I live in a cooler climate, and my house is at about 60F during the day and 65F when we are home, Is this an alright temperature to be storing my cigars? In the summer I keep my cigars in my basement where the temps are close to the same. Or perhaps I need to be keeping my cigars at a different temp. Once again, thank you for the wealth of knowledge everyone has posted. And thank you to anyone who can help me with my questions. All help is greatly appreciated. |

Re: Help, I have slipped, and I can't get up!
Welcome to CS - I am sure some guys can chime in and give you some tips on smoking indoors. One thing I do know, make sure you cover your cold air return. Coolers work well for mass storage. I find that the low profile opaqueness of the cooler works well for not emphasizing the large amount of cigars someone may have. As they say out of sight out of (wifes) mind. 60-65* should be fine for storage.. Better cooler than warmer.
have fun!

Welcome to the Jungle Denny! Great intro & good luck on the slope!
![]() ![]() And Andy gives great advice!I'm in L.A. and didn't take the necessary precautions until it was too late and it was too warm but I think you'll be fine temperature-wise. You're lucky there! As for salt-testing a digital hygro....I dunno, I never have! But maybe I should! |

Hi Denny. Welcome to Clubstogie! Congrats on getting your own smoking den. I'm sure that will make a big difference in your enjoyment over the winter.
Check out this thread if you want to see some of the humidors members have set up here. It's a couple hundred pages over 2 years of pictures, so I'm sure you'll find something that might convince your wife it's the norm. I just hope she doesn't watch the credit card bills :]. http://www.clubstogie.com/vb/showthr...t=show+humidor
