Inexperienced Cigar Smoker

hello guys, i am new to the board and i have a few questions for you. i have been smoking cigars for a few years now and i have just found my first cigar that i am in love with. i picked up a don tomas clasico the other day and i love everything about it. what i would like to know is what other cigars might you suggest i try that would fall in line with the clasico. i also have a humidor question. i bought a basic humidor from thompson cigar a couple of years ago, the humidor no longer works inside, can i just replace that? thanks guys!

Welcome! Try every cigar you can to determine what you like and dislike. As far as the humidor, are talking about the humidifier? If so, yes. You will need to reseason the humidor too.

Good to have you aboard. I bought a humidor from them a few years back and it still is working just fine. If the humidifier isn't working for you then you might be better off using beads.

Welcome to the Jungle.

I have had my Thompson's basic humidor for years now and it is still just fine. Get yourself some beads and be sure the hydrometer is calibrated properly. Take the time to read some of the stickies here and you will find a wealth of info and a great bunch of Gorillas.

I use the Heartfelt 65% RH beads and love them. Just 'set and forget' (mostly).

heartfeltindustries.com

You should read up though and decide for yourself. In the accessories-questions section of the forum read the 'Humidification Beads FAQ' thread. It is most informative.

Regarding hygrometers: It depends which one you buy. Digitals can be more accurate. I use the Hygroset adjustable digital which is touted as being a cut above the generic digital, but still affordable.

Get yourself a good online seller (I suggest Atlantic Cigar) and try a few 5 packs of the following in the size you like:

Leon Jimenez 300
Oliva Serie O
CAO MX2
Gran Habanos 3 Siglos

In fact get a whole 20 box of the Olivas... You will not be dissapointed. They are amazing and incredible value. They hold their own against many Cuban made cigars.

Enjoy your new passion!
