We didn't want Navy just because you're at sea for so long and can't bring your family--no way! The Army is a great outfit, but those guys are soldiers and their support people (I'm guessing dental too) have to accept those conditions.

For example, in a combat deployment--even at a "base"--the Air Force will be in a hotel or some sort of building like that, and the Army will be in tents on the lawn of that building. Not a joke. That's why the Air Force gets so much crap from the other branches of service, but also one of the reasons we chose them The money might be the same, but the quality of life is higher from what I've seen.

Just my limited experience. Less than 4 years in here.

That is why I joined Big Blue, Quality of Life. It is better. I planned on being a "lifer" and raising a family and the A.F. is better in those regards.

Welcome to the pond. There are a lot of great military people here - both active duty and retired - and none of us discriminate against the Air Force.

Welcome to the Ocean/Jungle???? Anyway. You are absolutely correct about the quality of the Air Force. Unfortunately I discovered how wonderful the Air Force was only after I was fully in the grasp of the Green Machine! Oh, the follies of youth!

Don't get me wrong. I loved the Army and it will always be remembered as a very special time for me. I just couldn't believe how well the Air Force guys were living! I went TDY to Luke AFB and was totally blown away! For a few brief days I was living the "Aim High" dream!

Cheers!

Re: Hi from the Air Force

four young recruits are on a bus heading for their basic training. The drill Seargeant tells the Navy recruit to sell all his stuff becuase he will be living in a cubby hole at sea, and might as well get rid of the girlfriend becuase his first cruise will be 8 months long. He tells the Army guy to break in his boots - first day of basic will be a 10 mile "hump" with 40 lb pack. He tells the marine to forget his mom's cooking they will be in the field for 12 weeks with nothing but MREs.

He tells the Air Force recruit, "Hope you brought your golf clubs and tennis racket!"

Cheers and welcome!
