New Member from New Jersey
Hello to everyone,
Glad to have joined the forum. I've been a lurker for a little while and want to start by saying I have benefited a lot from all the great information so many members have taken the time to post. I recently bought a 50 count humi and wouldn't have it working so well without all the great posts on seasoning, heartfelt beads, etc. Thanks a million. I actually had my first cigars, sneaked from my uncle's box, when I was twelve, and I'm thirty now, so at some level I've been puffing for eighteen years. My father's father was born in Pinar del Rio, my father in Havana, so I come from a family that likes its cigars. Anyway, I've lost my digital camera so I can't post any pics of my humi and its inventory, yet, but glad to be here and all that. Cheers, S |

Re: New Member from New Jersey
Thanks for the welcome, guys. I'm posting from Morristown, by the way. We've got a decent, cigar bar in town, for those passing through, The Side Bar. I say 'decent' because the place has recently gone from a pleasant, mellow place to puff and talk to a place to scream at your conversation partner over hammered Jets fans.
No offense to Jets fans. |

Re: New Member from New Jersey
I have been to JR, in Whippany, a few times. I have mixed feelings about the place. The employees are definitely very friendly, helpful people. I prefer a different atmosphere as far as the bar/restaurant/lounge they have.
And I recently had a poor experience there: I bought a Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real Toro to smoke in the bar. Shortly after I'd lit it, it cracked on the side and proceeded to fall apart. I sat in the overcrowded, loud bar, trying to sip a porto and have my stogie, surrounded by people chain smoking cigarettes and knocking back beers and shots, as though they were in any old bar, pre-smoking ban. This is the burden of many a cigar bar these days and no fault of JR's. But, my brother in law bought the same R&J stick that day and the same thing happened to him, with the splitting, later at home. My guess is that it was a fluke. I've smoked loads of that cigar line and never had a problem, and I've had sticks from JR that were fine. In a humi the size of a high school gym, not everything can be perfect. Maybe that's why, when I go to a B&M, I prefer a little independent one. There's a nice one in Summit which displays the converse conditions of JR. It's called Flores Cigars or something like that. Tiny little place. Two Cuban brothers run it and they can be as freindly as they can be not so much. So, the customer service ain't like JR. You walk in, wondering how you'll be treated and then buy a probably slightly overpriced stick from their small walk in humi. But, in the years I've gone there, not one stick has ever been even slightly off and they have a great boutique smoke of their own called "Flor de Flores" that I recommend to any in the area. So, there you go. I'll risk feeling like I've walked unwelcome into a private club with the brothers in Summit, because I know I'll get what I want, a beautiful stick from a quiet little shop. Also, for Jersey/PA/NYC folk: "A Little Taste of Havana" in New Hope, PA. Whenever my girlfriend and I go away for a romantic weekend, I stop in there for a romantic moment of my own (until she steps in loaded down with shopping and coughs politely). I'm gonna do a search of the forum before starting any talk on the subject, but I know there are great B&M's and bars and lounges to have a smoke hidden all over the country. Maybe we should make a list? (I'll probably find out in a few seconds this list already exists on here.) |

Re: New Member from New Jersey
I'm still new here so i'm curious does the thread already exist?
Here in Colorado (north of denver) we have a couple of nice quiet places where you can commune with your bro's while smoking. Havana Manor in Longmont Barlow's in Lafayette I know what you mean about crowded noisy bars though.

SmokinGun22, I'm still searching for it. I'll let you know.
Shadowbandit, Oye, Chico! My Dad's from El Cerro, in Havana. I think the guys in Summit are from Villa Clara, as well. |
