Welcome Chipthepilot. It would be real cool to have you post from all over the world, or where ever your flying takes you and tell us about your "cigar adventures".

We especially want to here about the ones that involve women.

Hey Everyone,
Really like what I've seen so far, especially the generaly laid-back attitudes. Look forward to discussions and occasional help from the experienced members.

I'm in Jim Goldens state but down at the southern border. Visited Pauls at Jansen Beach and enjoyed it very much, nothing like that down here.
I drink the same as Kevin G but make mine Saphire w/an onion.
I havn't smoked a Cuban either Patrick, but I brought back a Monti #2
and a R&J (fatty, maybe churchill) both Habana Tubos from our
Canadian neighbors. Just can't decide when to fire one up.
I quit the cigarettes in January and in my usual OC way of doing things, went full tilt into premiums. I smoke no less than one a day, no more than three. Prefer La Aurora Preferidos #3's, Partagas Limited Reserve (Green Label), but I'm still learning and experimenting and I'll try almost anything.

I'd like to add that I don't light up my first until mid afternoon, curious about the rest of you, might that be an interesting thread?

I'd like to send along a photo of my humidor. I'm converting an old bookshelf. I have the Spanish Cedar for lining it but still need to have it sanded and edged.

Enough about me.
Tim

Welcome Tim. I'm about to fire up the shaker with some Bombay Sapphire in about a half hour. Putting the Onion instead of an Olive, officially makes the Martini into a Gibson.

I'm looking forward to seeing you join in the discussions.

Kevin,

Or you could do an SOS, Sapphire on Schwepps, instead of a TnT, Tanquray and tonic.

I still prefer onions over olives in my drinks.

Hello all. I've been reading this site for a few weeks now so I figured now's a good time to introduce myself.

My name is Nick, and I'm a brand new cigar smoker. I've only had a few cigars so far. My first one was a Don Juan Crillio 98. I had no idea what I was doing. I didn't have a cutter so I just peeled the cap off. I inhaled everytime, so after about a quarter of it, I couldn't see straight and swore off cigars forever. The next day I figured I must have been doing something wrong, so I went online to do some research. Now I get it. It's a much more enjoyable experience now.

I'm in the US Navy, stationed in Japan. I live on the ship so storage is an issue. I can only get a few cigars at a time, and smoke them soon after. I could probably get a small humidor though. There is a small tobacco shop in the mall next to the base with a small selection of cigars. Right now I am in Hong Kong for a port visit. I bought a few more here (supposedly Cuban but i'm not sure).

Do you guys have any advice for a newbie such as myself, such as brands, tastes, etc.

Thanks

Nick

Nick

Welcome to the forum. I hear that Habanos are everywhere in Hong Kong. So yo umay have found the real thing. you could post a couple pics for us to help you determine their authenticity. I would definately recommend getting a small travel humidor if you want to keep some sticks around. If you are just going to smoke them up real fast then don't bother. Maybe you could find some other people who share your cigar hobby and have a larger humi stocked at all time

Welcome Nick! Nice to meet you and thank you for your service!
I don't think you'll have to worry about fake Habanos in Hong Kong. I would stay with mild cigars until you get used to them and don't inhale!
I would just buy a couple at a time till I figured out what I liked.

Hi Nick,

Welcome. I will leave the cigar advice to the real experts. I prefer mild to medium sticks and love Don Diegos and Casa Torano. Most of these guys wouldn't clean mud from their shoes with one of them.

Tell me how Yokosuka is now. I was stationed there for 3 1/2 years aboard the USS Midway CV-41 (now a floating museum in San Diego). I was there from late '76 to early '80. Do they still call the area right outside the main gate the Honcho? Do many Japanese smoke cigars?

Thanks for serving.
