Welcome, Nelson, from Kansas. Used to do pipes, but never got very good at keeping a good temperature (always got it too hot or let it go out). Glad to have you here.

You sort of have to get used to relighting. Smoking a pipe is a constant challenge to reach the goals of the perfect tobacco and to smoke a bowl with one match. I go through periods where nothing seems to taste right... luckily a cigar isn't far away.

Good question Mike. But that can be a hard question also. I'm always on the search for the perfect tobacco and I've tried quite a few. Right now I have really been enjoying a variety of flakes. Some of my favorites are Dunhill Light Flake, Solani's Virginia and Perique Flake, Fryborg and Treyor's Special Brown Flake and St. James Flake by Sam Gawith. It takes a bit getting used to learning to pack a flake tobacco properly, but I've found that once you get it down, the flavor is excellent, the smoke is long and the relights are few. You can't ask for much more than that.
As far as my pipe collection goes, I have in the vicinity of around 80 pipes, 40 to 50 of which are in my regular rotation and another 12 or so I haven't smoked yet. I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have. Take Care, Nelson |
