Oregon Irish
'Lo to all the members of this forum. I ran across it this morning, looking for a really decent tobacco forum that had mostly cigar and pipe discussion, and I do beleive I've found it; you seem like a great lot, and I think I'll enjoy it here.
A bit about me - I'm irish born, but american raised, lived in Oregon, the US, most of my life. I'm currently a college student and law enforcement-related worker by trade, but a writer and jazz lover by passion; passion is something I have a great deal of, and it recently lead me to cigars. I've been a pipe smoker for some time now, although I would consider myself 'amatuer', I only own four pipes, and only one of them could be called decent. However, during a spring break half-work/half vacation trip to a family home in Palm Springs, California, my love for cigars was truely kindled. I must have smoked 4 to 5 a day down there, and since I got back here I've been doing much the same. When I'm not at work, class, or the pub, my local tobacconist (T. Whitaker's) is pretty much where I am to be found. My favorite so far has been:
I've also had, as cubans go, a fonseca (I beleive that was the name) and an H. Upman (?) and was not at all impressed by either. I'm pretty sure that the Fonseca was legit, not too sure about the Upman. Anyway, on the pipe end of things, I started out with sweet aromatics, like most people I know did, and now I gravitate mostly to mildly aromatic virginias, sometimes a latakia heavy blend as well. I have a generic italian bent briar, a billiard sandblasted briar 'Captain Peety's', and my gem is a Peterson July 4th 2002 pipe in a bent style. I also have a clay churchwarden that broke in half of it's impressive length the day I bought it. Not much of a cigerette smoker, thank Cthulhu, but I will on occaision take a Djarum Black or a Nat Sherman's New York Cut with a drink. Hope to enjoy this place. -Chad/Sean, smoking a Drew Estate La Vieja Habana |

Re: Oregon Irish
Thanks for all the warm welcomes and compliments so far; It's this sort of stuff that attracted me to the forums.
Nice people, swapping cigar stories and even in some cases, apparently, cigars - all in the name of geniality. That is the definition of a groovy place. |

Oh, it is indeed sparse. And cold. And yes, there are Tasmanian Devils, though their numbers are declining as of late. Poor little devils. |
