Hey Y'all
I am Ed...,
I was brought on board by Darren and Mel whom I met at a recent "to do" in San Diego. I am 62, a grandfather...ask me about my grandkids...I dare ya! and a cigar smoker of long, long standing. I began with the A&C Grenediers of the 1960's... handrolled smokes were not available in my neck o th woods. I am a native of Alabama, hence the handle, have lived in Ohio, West By God Virginia, TEXAS, and now in Illinois. I am better at smokin seegars than talkin about them, so y'all will just have to get used to me. I do enjoy a good bourbon, or cognac, a good cigar and the company of good friends... good cigars require companionship.. MHO In addition to my grandkids and cigars, I enjoy shootin big bore pistols... nothin smaller than a .45 ACP and the biggest I ever shot was a .470 nitro express in a handgun! damn thing liked to have killed me! ( I shoot the smaller ones, but they don't qualify as big bore!) bass fishin is another passion... so lets see we have booze, cigars, shootin and fishin... thats a liar's paradise! remember now, first liar don't stand a chance... Ed PS since I am an old fart and don't understand all the new fangled lingo...whatinhell is a "herf"? |

welcome Ed, i have to agree with you on the cognac and a good cigar, cigars also age well with good company.

Welcome Ed!! NC calling! A "herf" is simply a gathering of Brothers and/or Sisters Of The Leaf for the sole purpose of socializing and enjoying fine smokes. On a different note,I shot a friends .50AE once at a 2x4.....it's a quick way to make toothpicks!! LOL!!

WELCOME! A HERF is where a group of people meet up and try out cigars, trade, and shoot the $hit. Maybe there is a formal definition, but that;s pretty much it in a nutshell....
It's a fun gathering.

When I shot the .470, I was at a range with my boys who were 12 and 14 at the time. Fellow had what looked to be a Thompson Contender that made a hell of a racket when it went off. We began a conversation and he asked me if I wanted to shoot it, I said yes, he loaded it and handed it to me and asked if I wanted his shooting glove. I declined, lined it up with the target and squeezed... I felt like I had a hold of Mt St. Helens when it went off. the pistol flew out of my hands, hit me in the head, went over my head and I turned and caught it just before it hit the ground. Both boys were on the ground, kicking their heels and laughing their as*es off. My head was bleeding from the hammer and I asked just whatinhell I had shot. ".470 nitro" he replied... went on to say he was a dealer in exotics. I asked the price, he declined, but told me he spent over a thousand dollars locating it! what a pistol...gives a new meaning to "hand canon" True story! Ed |
