Howdy from VA
Hi Folks,
New Guy here in Virginia. I'm New to cigars, but am enjoying the adventure so far. Over the course of the last 10 years or so, I've had a few occasions to smoke a few cigars, but tended to regret it just about every time. Seems that the taste and smell of these random encounters was just not something I could understand. So.. I'm randomly reading about cigars and humidors, and I see somebody makes a note about how much of a difference there is between a quality hand-roll and just any run of the mill cigar. This peaks my curiosity, so I ordered a single Oliva Serie V cigar - and man oh man... were they absolutely right. It's a shame that there are even crappy cigars out there that could have prevented me from ever experiencing a true quality product. Anyhow, that's ultimately how it started a few months ago. Now I have a decent humidor, cutter and lighter and after reading "Cigars for Dummies" It has truly turned into an adventure. So far, I have tried a sampler of 5 Vegas, Perdomo, Oliva, Don Pepin, and CAO. I'm leaning towards the Oliva Serie V as my favorite, although the Master Blend 3 was really great. I may be partial to the V because it was my first really great experience.. (and you always remember your first). I have a selection of Graycliff, Gurkha, Man O' War, Rocky Patel, Arturo Fuente and 601 on the way. Should be here by Wednesday - and I'm looking forward to it. Have never had any of them before. Sooo.....a little bit about me.. I'm a married father of 2; have a 2 year old son that is my best buddy in the world, and a 2 month old baby girl who is my princess and has me wrapped around her little finger already. I like to hop on the motorcycle with the wife and go the back way to some cool new place. I like RC Cars, I like guns, I like single barrell Bourbon(not together with guns or motorcycles), I like to eat, I like to laugh, I like technology, I like power tools, and I like to enjoy life. That's pretty much it. I'm Looking to learn from the members here, but I DO know how to use the search feature. Athough, i'm sure someday, I will likely post a "forbidden" topic not knowing it's forbidden. (such as the 'Do you wave to other riders' - which is a forbidden, beaten to death topic on the Harley forum i read). Take Care, Robert |

Re: Howdy from VA
Greetings from Gainesville. Wait till you start pairing single malt scotch with cigars. You may want to take up crack, it's cheaper.

Re: Howdy from VA
Right on! I was in Toronto last week, and I had a really nice steak for dinner. For desert I had a great glass of Scotch and I had access what seemed like a decent selection of cigars from the hilton shop... But lovely Toronto being Toronto I could not find a place to sit and smoke one with smoking banned everywhere. Sure bummed me out!

Welcome from NY, Im with you on the Bourbon but Ive only had the opportunity to try a few small batch versions my favorite being Woodford Reserve. I find it goes very well with Rocky Patels!

Re: Howdy from VA
Welcome, Rob, and great intro! Hi, from Richmond!
Scotch and cigars go great together and is my usual pairing. Lately, I've been going cuban and starting to pair them with rums. So far, so good, though I'd never drink rum to drink rum. Quote:
