More About New guy from Beantown
Ok, where to start. Ok, I work a lot – some people say too much. But don't get me wrong, I do love my down time and I do get plenty of that. I'm a landlord. I own 6 rental properties, each with 3 units. I'm currently living in one of them – the best one, naturally, but for a few years I lived in the worst. My wife, who is a nurse, built us a beautiful cabin in upstate Vermont and I bought her a decent pontoon boat that we've only used once yet. It's on Lake Champlain. We're also having a ranch style house built (with my own smoking room). There aren't many cigars she'll let me smoke in the house and then only occassionally. The porches are nice but not when it's down around 10 below.
I'm just about done upgrading the 3 properties I bought last fall. Been putting a lot of time into it trying to get it done by August. Should be done by the 4th of Aug anyway. When that's done we're moving into the cabin up north until the new place is done. Yeah, vaca at last. With all this work money is pretty tight about now. In the winter I buy cars at auction and sell them, and I also plow snow. Last winter was pretty good for plowing. So I usually buy most of my cigars in the winter. I like to stop in at the local smoke shops and will buy a single now and then. My humidors: I have an Aristocrat glass top mahogany end table with a Staebell & Associates electronic humidification and temperature control system. I paid about $1200 for it which included some nice etching on the glass door. It's rated for 30 – 40 boxes but I've never had more than 20 or so in it. I have a small cherry humidor that my father gave me when he quit smoking about 15 years ago. It still has 17 Davidoff smokes in it, vintage 1992. He also liked Dunhill. I smoke 1 each year on May 6 and drink a couple Michelob's at his grave, rain or shine. He passed away 6 years ago. I know, they're probably worth a small fortune, but he meant a lot more to me. I have a Craftsman Bench Taj Mahal on my desk. It's a beautiful burled brazilwood box that holds my every day smokes. Arturo Fuente 858 maduros and Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 robustos. I wanted churchills but my brother said he couldn't get them. In the living room I have one from Prestige called the Waldorf. Not sure what the wood is but it's a nice box with an arched top with 4 compartments inside. It's the one I keep for company (and moochers). It was a gift from a good hunting buddy of mine from New Zealand. Up at the cabin I have a real beauty, presented to me at the foot of our “driveway” before she revealed to me what she'd been up to. Yeah, the cabin was a complete surprise to me. It's a Daniel Marshall 20th anniversary Treasure Chest. Could I possibly say no at her request for a pontoon boat for her birthday? I suppose I could have. I never was much for pontoon boats until I discovered it can easily get 3 skiers up without any trouble. Blew me away. Lol And last but not the least. We travel a lot so I have to have a travel humi. It's a Craftsman Bench Expedition. It has aluminum sides and 5 compartments with foam pads and 2 humidifiers. It'll hold 35 cigars easily. Hmmm, would look nice in our stateroom when we take our much hoped for ocean cruise to Cuba. Looking forward to that day. Aren't we all? Oh, lest I not forget. I ride a Harley. It's an 06 Dyna Wide Glide. Over the years I've kept quite a few tubes. For a couple days on the road or so I just tuck a few tubes in the bags along with the gear. Tubes are great for that as long as they're airtight. I've never found a cigar that suffered much from 2 or 3 days on the road that way. Well, not much of a bio really, but it does say a little about me. |

Re: More About New guy from Beantown
I was up in Burlington last summer. It's beautiful country up there. I'm a southern boy used to 6 months of summer and only a week or two of winter, so I don't know if I'd be able to handle the cold that far north. Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Hey you forgot your shoe size in your post!!!!!! Kidding it sounds like you're really living! Good for you. Great stuff on your traditions for your Dad. I am in the Boston area also I visit Cigar Masters when I am in Town. I sometime go to Victory Cigar here in Sudbury but most often I go to a place my friends own in Northboro. The Havana House.
I am a new guy here too!! Last edited by rlupojr; 07-30-2009 at 03:17 PM.. |

I've never been to Cigar Masters. Where is it? I remember going to David P. Erlich's with my dad as a kid. I believe it's still there in Harvard Sq. I usually go to Red Lion in Salem and the Smoke Shop in Peabody. |

Re: More About New guy from Beantown
Cigar Masters is right on Boylston St Two block up towards mass ave on the right hand side. Its is a 3 minute walk from Copely Station. I have not been tow any in Cambridge I will have to check it out. Next time I am near Salem I will give that a shot also!

Re: More About New guy from Beantown
Cigar Masters is nifty, but just cigars. Ehrlich is all right, but the staff are youngish folk. For "old school" knowledge and camaraderie, I recommend LJ Peretti in downtown Boston, across from the Common.
