Noob from CA
Hi everyone!
I actually joined last month, mainly to be able to search for reviews on cigars, but I figured that it was time to start posting. I converted to cigars about 2 months ago and so far I'm loving it. I've basically been buying samplers from online retailers to get an idea of the sorts of cigars I like. So far, I've enjoyed RP 1992, Gurkha Centurian, CAO Black, Graycliff 1666, Padilla 68, Java Maduro and Cuba Libre. Granted, I'm still refining my cigar palate, but I've been unimpressed by the Gurkha Legend, Gurkha Park Avenue, Gurkha Sherpa (got all these in samplers), and a few others that I can't remember as I'm only keeping the cigar bands of the ones that I like. I made a real noob mistake by buying a small 50 ct humidor...plan on getting a larger one in the future, but for now I've got a very large tupperdor in the works...Now I just need to convince my wife that I need to fill it! I've enjoyed reading a lot of the comments and ratings on Puff.com and hope to make some friends here...Also, any guidance or recommendations are always welcome! |

Re: Noob from CA
Thanks guys!
I was wondering how many of you guys age your cigars and for how long? My first buy was about a month ago, and I noticed that, for example, the Oliva O that I smoked when I first got them was just ok, but the one I recently smoked after about 1 month in the humidor was much better. Should most cigars be set aside or are there any out there that are better to be smoked right away? |

Re: Noob from CA
Welcome, and I made the same mistake. I figured a 75 count would last me for years....
and a year later, I've already ordered a 1000ct. I'm sure this is only the beginning of your journey too lol |

Re: Noob from CA
Welcome. As far as your question about aging, I do age some of my cigars. It depends on the brand. The medium to strong cigars tend to age better, and you will find that some age more than others. I aged some Padron 1926 and 1964s, along with some Aurora Cien Anos, and they turned out fantastic after about 3 years (they were great before).
And there you have your justification to the wife to a bigger humidor. |

Re: Noob from CA
1000 ct humidor? (drooling)...how much did that run you? I'm thinking that my next investment will be in converting a wine cooler...It gets pretty hot here in the summers, and even indoors with the A/C set to 72, my humi runs about 74-76...I'm also stockpiling cigars to age in a large tupperdor and the more I think about it, I'd like to get some temp control so I don't have to micromanage it as much as I feel I need to now.
