Howdy all from Sorpano-land!
Hi Folks, and greetings from amidst billowing clouds of fragrant first, second and third hand premium cigar smoke.
Much to the dismay of my better half (and the guys in white lab coats) I'm brand new to cigars up here in North Jersey, roughly 25 miles west of the GWB and in the heart of where The Sopranos was filmed ("Tony's House" in North Caldwell is about 1.3 miles from my front door, in fact!). I'm originally from Montreal and then spent 20+ years in Toronto and moved to NYC in 2000--then to NJ in 2005. I'm always interested in trying something new and my curiosity into cigars got the better of me in late June. I'm holding at about three a week and for health reasons, I really don't want to go much above that. I prefer medium-strength for the most part and haven't yet found a favorite, although HdM's Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight series seems pretty decent and reasonably-priced. Fuente's Hemmingways didn't do much for me, nor did CAO Brazilia Samba or Ashton VSG (too spicy/strong for my relatively weak palate), but by the same token, Macanudo Vintage 2000 and Romeo y Julietta Vintage IIIs were too wussy. I did enjoy Cohiba Dominican red-dot a little more, actually, than their namesakes from That Place Which Can't Be Named Here but the opposite is true with the White-Label Monte (Dominican? Honduran??) versus its famous relative. I fix Windows for food (Microsoft, not glass), I'm a ham radio operator in my spare time and have occasionally been know to punch Cessna-shaped holes in the sky in the past. Cheers to one and all. |

Re: Howdy all from Sorpano-land!
Re the DK line, I jJust had another last night (the I, not the II this time). Wow. Great smoke, great price and a terriffic experience. One of the guys at JR in Whippany (about 15 minutes away from here) put me on to this cigar and I've loved it ever since. Except the guy who puts the caps on needs a little more practice.
I had a package of 5 DK-IIs that were over-moist and have never dried out properly, hence have been hard to keep lit - but last night's DK-I was perfect. No relights or touchups needed, smooth draw (albeit a little lite for my preferences) and a very even burn. My only wish would be for a smaller cigar in the DK series (say 5-1/2 x 46 or something like that) for when time's limited or the weather outside on the deck is cold! |
