G'day from Adelaide, South Australia
Hi to all avid cigar lovers of the world.
I hope to get a lot of good info from this forum and I'll try and share some of my short exposure to cigars. Over here in oz we don't get the vast array of cigar brands so I tend not to smoke a lot. About once or twice a month... if that!! I do have a tuppadore with 2 Excalibur No1's by HDM, a Padron 2000M, and a CAO L'anniversarie Robusto. These were brought in from Dallas Texas by a family friend. Most of the cigars here are cubans and are too expensive for my budget, normally I'll try to find a cigar(s) under $20AU($17US). Our smoking laws and taxes over here are ridiculous. If anyone is coming to oz, you can bring in 250grams (8.5ounces) without getting taxes charged on it. Even if I receive gifts I'll still have to pay all the taxes regardless of weight???? I've thought about creating my own website/import business that will be able source cigars from anywhere in the world?????? Maybe one day. Thanks Scott |

Welcome aboard! My father was stationed in Oz in the 70's and he's been to your neck of the woods. He loved Australia, said it was one hell of a place to be! Nice people, good food, and good beer(among other things).

Cigary - If you have any questions re Australia let me know, I'm no expert but I'll try and help you as much as I can. smelvis - re sending cigars, An example of how the duty and GST on goods valued at AU$1000 is calculated: Customs value $1,000.00AU Customs duty @ 5% x $1,000 = 50.00(Payable) International transport and insurance 150.00 VoTI 1,200.00 GST @ 10% x $1,200 = 120.00 (Payable) Total payable (Customs duty + GST) 170.00 Here is the price difference between US and AU - For your info I just found a box of Perdomo Lot 23 Natural Robusto (20 sticks) from nicetightash valued at $88.95....... over here that same box from the makers website is $350.00!!!!!!!!!!! damn taxes, damn government... |
