East-Central Illinois Newbie
Hey, folks!
My name is Darrel (no; I don't have another brother named Darrel) and I hail presently from Charleston, IL. I'm a prof at Eastern Illinois University and, since there's *nothing else* to do in Charleston, have recently taken up cigar smoking. My favorite, right now, are probably Padron 2000 and 3000. I've only tried the nats, but a maddy is in the humi waiting for Saturday night. I've found that I'm generally pretty happy with medium-full flavor cigars with Nic & Hon fillers. I'm too new to take a firm stance on the nat vs. mad debate (if you want to call it that); but think I have a slight preference for maddies. Aside from the Padrons, then, I've been enjoying Hoyo, Punch, Partagas Black, and 5 Vegas. Anyway, I just wanted to drop in, say "hi," and introduce myself. ~d. |

Re: East-Central Illinois Newbie
Welcome from tennessee. Just so you know you are on the top of a slippery slope especially coming in here with all of the diverse knowledge and helpful people. As far as smokes go, you seem to have a good grasp of what you like so get in on one of the PIF threads and get some sticks that you may not have had, you will be like the rest of us soon (not enough humi space). Anyway welcome to the jungle.

As for my teaching and research, I teach courses in rhetoric and public culture in the Dept. of Communication Studies. Currently, that means I'm teaching classes in argumentation and persuasion; but I'll soon be teaching other classes (communication of race & ethnicity, a course in publics and counterpublics, a course on social movements, etc.). My research right now focuses on a group of radical Puerto Ricans (yo soy Boricua) active from 1969-1972, called the Young Lords. They were kind of like the Puerto Rican Black Panthers ... but without guns The next project after this one (in a few years) will be on Puerto Ricans and the House Un-American Activities Committee. Thanks for welcoming me! |

Welcome to Club Stogie, Darrel!
It should be interesting having a Prof. of Communication around.
